When I think of a great shoe/boot to hunt with, I would never consider a spongy soft low dropped shoe. Why? EVA foam, though soft will compress easily, which makes hokas so great for running, but add a 55# pack to your back and now stop often to glass or walk slowly and that soft mid sole is...

Looks for cracks in the plastic, flexing the insole and looking for white stressed areas or a crack. When cracked, replace.

anyone want to hunt tejon hogs in so cal?

Tejon is quite possibly the best hog hunting in the state. Been there twice and came home with full coolers each time. Great hunt and highly recommended!
