High Country Horseback Mule Deer Hunt

I got to talk to Robby a bit this morning. He joked with me that I may need to send a rescue team because his butt is frozen to the ground. He said that it is as cold as it normally is in November in that country. He was not as prepared with cold weather gear this hunt as this cold front was...

High Country Horseback Mule Deer Hunt

Hiked from new camp, leaving at 6:00. By first light, found a decent buck- maybe 27" & 175". Tempting but I cant shoot a big deer if I cant pass on the nice bucks. Saw several other nice bucks and a big 5x6 bull that would go 320 if he had his Left 5th point. Headed back to camp a little early...

Robby says there are lots of horses in this country, people expect to see them. Good idea though.

High Country Horseback Mule Deer Hunt

"When I dropped off top yesterday, I found at least one mature buck track, so I figured I better give the area one more day. Didn't see any bucks last night but hit the trail before 5:30 am today anyway. Tied the horse and climbed the last 1000 feet. Just after sunrise, found a bachelor herd way...

I found a photo of the real Jeremiah Johnson. I'll compare Robby to Robert Redford. I am wasting entirely too much time! I will check in later when I hear from Robby again.

Yep, I married Jeremiah Johnson. Here is a quote from him-(From Jeremiah, that is) Jeremiah: (after laboriously teaching Swan one word of English- Jeremiah points to himself) "Great hunter. Yes?" Swan: "Yes." Jeremiah: (points to himself again) "Fine figure of a man. Yes?" Swan: "Yes."...

High Country Horseback Mule Deer Hunt

"Up at 4:15. Headed up the mountain. Colder than a well digger's seat. Stanley, Idaho hit a record low of 10 degrees. Very dry and crunchy. Elk season is open and I've glassed several shooter bulls, best around 330". Good to see them as the wolves are here and the outfitters are worried...

Thanks guys-You are awesome to encourage me. 23 degrees here this morning in the valley. I don't envy Robby on the top of a mountain (Good chance of snow). But he loves it.

Sorry about the attachment. Can't seem to figure out how to make it larger/more clear. Regarding the Spot messenger, I love it. It is great peace of mind for those at home. I think we saw it first on "Survivorman". Anyway, it makes my nights a little more restful. Great gift idea!!

Got a Spot check from him a couple of hours ago--he is at the trail head. Does anyone out there use a Spot Satellite Messenger?

Belly-Deep, wish you would come to Idaho and go with Robby some time. I don't like that he goes alone on these hunts, but he is a tough guy. I always need to keep really busy so I don't think too much of where he is and how alone he is. I pray.

Follow Robby and Nate Mabie on a High Quality Elk Hunt in SE Idaho

So cool, guys. Love watching this progress. The fact that Nate looks like a character from the movie Braveheart (I mean this in a good way) only adds to the intrigue!

    Robby Denning's Colorado Muzzleloader Hunt

Robby is on the way home already. (Long drive home). Stay tuned, in the next few days Robby will post HD video of both the bucks he was chasing. He says thanks for following the thread. It was encouraging for him. Sorry for all the suspense with no buck to show for it.

"Drank 1.5 quarts of water, ate snacks, thanked the Lord for the opportunities and started the long hike back to the truck. Feeling is one of somber exhilaration." Robby
