I carry an extra release in my pack. I will also have an extra sight pin this year, I broke one on a stalk last year. I also keep a portable bow press in my truck.
I have a Slik 613CF that has been great! I have only used it with a 60mm scope, but it is very solid. It packs pretty small and has twist locks, which I did not think I would like, but have been very pleased with them.

I did a very thorough analysis of the archery deer draws in Colorado by taking two GMU maps and marking those units that took ) points and those that took 1 point. It is shocking how much of the state can be drawn with one point.
I have always preferred hunting mule deer. In my mind there is not a more intelligent animal than a mature mule deer buck. It is a quiet game, no calling, just stealth. They are much easier to pack out too:)
