Plumb Reticle but Always Looks Canted to Left

If you truly want to check, hang a plumb line at 100m and get behind the optic. Scope leveling is a bit controversial. I tend to favor it being perfectly square to the bore on the vert axis. However, a lot of excellent shooters like David Tubb do it totally opposite and their rifle is a bit...

Southern BC / Alberta guided Mule Deer Hunts?

As someone who isn’t familiar with BCs Mule Deer, is one part of BC better? Is the trophy and hunt quality better in Alberta than BC?

Keeping bear meat vs hide only... what do you do?

Google bear tapeworm. It’s disgusting…and normal for bears to have so many worms that they drag along behind the bear. https://www.iflscience.com/alaskan-bears-occasionally-trail-meterslong-tapeworms-from-their-behinds-60677

Keeping bear meat vs hide only... what do you do?

It depends on where you live and what the bears ate. Bears are often nasty, parasite ridden, and sick. If they have access to fish, trash, or similar…pass. Either way, to kill the tapeworm and trig…you have to cook it well and freezing for a few weeks helps.

    The Future of Idaho

When the government enables 50 million additional residents…or border crossers…you get 50 million people needing houses, cars, jobs, healthcare…and concrete pours as far as you can see.

NEW American Rifle Company Coup De Grace Action $899

I like the action and I am confident that LRI can build it into something crazy accurate…but I am not a fan of detachable mags on hunting rifles.

    The Future of Idaho

It’s ironic, the exact same discussion happens in other states with other species. In Arkansas, they curse “OOSERs” or out of state ers. They threaten then, sink their boats, vandalize their trucks at boat ramps…and demand that special seasons be set aside for only residents. Game and fish...

The elk shoulder that stopped a 308

Non bonded cup and core bullets are inherently inconsistent terminal performers. They come apart relatively easily, so they will have a higher frequency of failure. That doesn’t mean they 100% fail…just that the design is more failure prone than a bonded bullet or a monolithic bullet. the...

The elk shoulder that stopped a 308

If it was a 223, it would have exited the far side. Sarcasm.

Electronic ear protection for duck hunting

Peltor Comtac Gen 5 is the industry standard and is ruggedized for wet/cold. That said, you have to slide one ear off to hear yourself call…then drop it back forward last second. It’s easy.

Dream elk rifle setup with $4k budget

My current go to is a stainless Model 70 in 300 win mag with a Steiner Predator 4, 4-16 with illuminated retical. I had the trigger tuned to 3 pounds. The original bedding was imperfect, so I bought some marine Tex and created pillars plus bedded with it. No issues. It’s 3/4 MOA...

    Wyoming corner crossing lawsuit

In no world, will landowners willingly enable or allow corner crossings. It requires a court ruling. Their inholdings are “their” public land.

    Wyoming corner crossing lawsuit

I’m surprised this isn’t concluded or that a major hunting org hasn’t jumped in to make precedent.

7prc just slayed the 6.8 Western

I like the concept of the .277 projectile, going back to the original 270wcf and the model 70. The various 6.8 cartridges that came around during the GWOT were interesting. The 6.8 Western is really the first attempt at a modern long range version of the 270…and they did it in a short action...

    Suppressor Opinion: Meh, It’s Ok

Suppressing a hunting rifle is nice for Africa as you shoot a lot and often hunt close to a truck. I’d be slow to put a can on a rifle I had to carry far. Plus, you ideally want a slightly heavier contour and shorter barrel. They make sense on ARs though.

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I articulated it clearly- Set a defined threshold for performance. The ones I listed are generally considered a baseline. If there is going to be a claim of good or bad performance, there has to be a standard that can be measured and repeated. The SMK has a ton of data on it, in gel and on...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I deal with terminal ballistics for a living, both on the performance and countermeasure ends. A number of anecdotal experience is not a scientifically valid test, nor has a quantifiable performance criteria been established to test against? How many inches of bone blind performance is...
