The 25" barrel being too long is an odd statement by the gunsmith. The 300 WSM definitely can be used with a shorter barrel but other than handling reasons there's no need to go shorter. If you like how it is as is keep it the same. A nice light stock like a Wildcat or other make would be a good...
Bacon won't give you any trouble, it's the other stuff we eat that causes issues like that. Lots of good info online about good diets. Hope you can eat some Bacon again soon.
Been going through this thread, you sure have come up with some excellent loads. I would give up a bit of speed too for a consistent load. It's nice you have so many good options to choose from. The 160 gr Accubond is a tough bullet to beat for all around use though.
Wow two rifles, you got it bad! Both sound very nice, it's nice to have two different guns set up a bit different.
I have thought about a cheap left hand 20" Win XPR to go along with my 24"barreled Tikka. I wasn't a 277 fan but sure came to like that bore a lot in the last 10 years or so. Even...
Of those options Trijicon is highly thought of on this website for their durability. Based on that I would choose one of them, they are high on my list for future scope purchases.
I've always thought there's room for 270 Win owners to get a 6.8 Western too and there's a bunch of us 270 fans that would do just that. Your fast twist 270 sounds sweet. The 6.8 Western should be able to get about 150 fps more speed. The CA Ridgeline could potentially be a really nice...
@wartak anything can happen especially if the initial shot isn't good. An older friend of mine used a 270 with 130 gr bullets, think they were Remington, shot one grizzly that died quick and a bunch of moose one of which made the record book for Canadian moose. Another guy I know shot a giant...
I would feel confident with the heavy 6.8 W bullets on grizzly. Whenever we get our grizzly season back I would totally hunt for them with it. In the creeks in the fall I would use my 35 Whelen where the shots can be very close but in honestly the 6.8 W would do the job just fine even there.
I picked up some N 565 but won't get to try it till the summer. Probably will also try N 568 since it appears it has better load density than N 570. All three look to be winners from the data Berger sent me and even N560 looks very good too. Looking forward to trying them out.
For those of us in Canada looking for the 6.8 W ADG brass they told me to contact Gary Eakin at Bighorn sales. They are located in Houston BC. I've bought two Benchmark barrels and a Trigger Tech trigger from them in the past and are great to deal with. The US will gobble up the initial run so...
