Its not hunting but I've been volunteering at a lot of youth rodeos lately. The kids are the most fun to get candid shots of. It was hotter than heck, and this rodeo didn't do anything in a rush so this kid was just getting some shade from mom's hat and waiting to ride his sheep.
My farrier competes in the world champions blacksmith series and forges horseshoes from bar steel. Got to go take a few pictures last Thursday of them practicing .
Learned a lot from the rodeo session this weekend-
Need to switch vantage points to eliminate as much background noise (people) as possible since I end up having to heavily crop to avoid weird faces
Potentially get closer so I can maximize aperture to blur out the background better.
Best light...
New Colt hit the ground last night and he's a big one (No Smoking Required x Banjo Spirit). Likely a cowhorse prospect and my new backcountry dude. It took the mare a few tries to take last year so he's a bit late to the party but not dealing with snow/cold is great!
Picked up a Nikon Z50 & 24-200mm Z f4-6.3 and decided to get a little more serious. Shot a youth rodeo this weekend. Learning curve is fun but tough. Editing is exhausting
Sounds like mules, horses, and llamas would have all struggled.
One important thing to consider is you can never compare types of pack animals against each other fairly. Goats are goats, mules are mules, and donks are donks.
Each animal has its owns advantages and disadvantages in any given...
If you look around Instagram there are a few people packing with mini donks or mini mules. Despite their stature the can be pretty athletic and they win quite a few pack burro races. With pack burro racing becoming more popular there is actually a decent tack selection for minis now.
The...
About once a year in the spring when it warms up, all our riding saddles get a healthy dose of leather cream or beeswax depending on the surface.
All my pack saddles are now biothane and that is fantastic. Minimal care involved other than rinsing cinches. Same goes for britchin, all biothane.
My first lesson with a bog sucked. I think its the only mishap I have taken pictures of and prolly the only thing that counts as close to a wreck with burros as you can get.
After a longer than normal winter in central New Mexico we wanted to get back out into the mountains. About mid-june I...
I don't like to be negative, I have already had a career with conflict. I'm just curious why the only stories we have gotten have been somewhat negative. Sort of like a temperance woman at a whiskey convention.
You labeled the thread Horse Wrecks and adventures. Of course folks are going to...
X2 on the easy boots. You can find a good deal on ebay for used boots which takes the bite out of buy a new set. However, just make sure you measure twice for size.
Yep same guy. Been on a few with Backcountry Rookies and Eastmans. Doing my best to get the word out about these guys.

I dig the analogy since we have a couple reiners. Its a funny juxtaposition with my BLM burros next to a couple $20-30,000 quarter horses.
I'd add:
2022 F350 king ranch off road package - well bred/trained quarter horse- Man they are nice to ride around in but I'm terrified of scratching it.
