Good deal! NM inspectors are pretty active.
Also if you can get your health cert as a PDF, that can be helpful for multiple fall or summer trips that are outside the 30 day window that most states issue certs for.
Thanks for the feedback.
I’ve got the new electric fence line reel (repurposed diving reel) done and now just need to finish the breakdown fiberglass poles for the lightweight setup.
Just had a kid a couple weeks ago and I have quite a bit of leave so I'm working on getting some more videos out. Did my best to cover electric fence, hobbles, and highline in a relatively short amount of time.
What did I miss or what other tips do you have?
Thanks,
Shane
Same, once a year duty. Scrub all the tack with a brush and bucket of soap. Spray down the pads and hit with a curry comb. I don't have much leather to treat anymore (mostly biothane).
Its amazing how much gunk comes off pads and cinches.
Side note- anyone here made their own pad? I'd like...
I've carried a few elk out in my Sawtooth and it works just fine.
A bigger backpack = more stuff to bring that you don't need. I can fit 3 nights/4days worth of stuff in there just fine. Tent will be lashed to the bottom and I'm not bringing extra clothes except for a extra pair of socks...
Just got back from two weeks in Colorado and spent time at a few different major trail heads.
I saw too many people overloading horse saddle and cantle bags, as well as using the trail max saddle bags with no consideration to weighing anything.
I would highly recommend a set of light...
Stock inspectors in NM are notorious for stopping people in that part of the state you'll be passing through. I would highly recommended getting health certs. I don't worry about it when I go from NM to CO but I have been stopped twice on my way to AZ, and know a number of folks that get stopped...
Awesome trip squirrel! I saw similar this weekend- Alpine grass just starting to turn brown/mature and the last of the summer flowers holding on. Finally drying out enough to get across some boggy areas.
We had a gorgeous weekend out in the South San Juan's. Did about 7miles in on Friday and...
I just started putting fronts on one of mine this year for racing. She's got white hooves and they just can't take the miles of training plus rocky terrain. I've done easy boots, which get you by, but you loose some agility/responsiveness.
The rest of them have really solid hard feet.
Thankful for the summer monsoons but its kept us out of the backcountry lately so a lot of local conditioning hikes after work or early in the morning on Saturdays. This weekend we'll head up to the south san juans. Most the racing crew was in Leadville over the weekend.
Highlight of the summer...
So much of it is scenario specific. How many animals are your taking, quantity of forage available, trees, hunting style.
Here is my two cents. Hobbles are nice for when your hanging around camp or if you come back frequently (I don't leave hobbled over night). The weigh pretty much nothing so...
