Easy boot- Epic model
I've put alot of miles on mine with good success. Get the gaiters for them too.
I use them in the off season when I pull my steel shoes but still want to go out for short jaunts around. Keeps the hoof wall intact.
Cut alot of logs with this one. Nice medium size.

Been using the electric fence and collapsable water bucket for 7 years now and no issue with my burros. I come back to camp every night to check on them (and sleep). If there is good grass, I can get 3 days from a spot before I have to move it. Much easier and less worry from hobbles. If I'm in...
+1 for donks/burros
Do everything a weekend warrior llama can do and are not outrageously priced. Advantage: Donkey
However the donkey and llama market in AK is probably pretty small. Let the AK guys chime in but a couple solid draft crosses for moose would be your best bet. Check out...
I've taken about half the posts I used to and take a little baggie of the screw in insulators. Easy to connect a few trees and make a pretty substainal pasture that'll last 3-4 days.
The Pecos wilderness has a incredible history with pack stock. We took a fun 20mile/two day trip as a training trek to get ready for our Colorado Trail adventure last summer. This was the first pack trip for two of the donks and my little BLM burro kicked butt.
The switch to a Efence from highline was a great decision.

Then about half way through this one I show a cool breakdown post setup I built:
mountain ridge gear if you don't mind bio-thane.
Limited conway buckles on their gear, and replaced with roller buckles. Because everyone hates adjusting conway buckles.

Just to clarify are you asking about saddle panniers or saddle bags?
What is posted above are small saddle bags, good for packing lunch, rainwear, binos, etc.
Sounds like you might be looking for larger saddle panniers for packing hindquarters, camp, etc?
Donks are cool. But like said 100x already- the best animal is the one you work with frequently. Mules, Donks, Yaks, whatever. They all have their advantages and disadvantages in any given situation.
I'm working on a new packing book that is focused on packing with donkeys/burros. It will be full of fun pictures, sketches, and each chapter starts off with a packing story. It largely follows along on the adventure we had this summer, hiking 150 miles of the Colorado Trail. Looking at about...
No, the Missouri guy's horse was shod. Still ran into foot issues though.
Absolutely it does. Builds trust on both sides. It is fun to spend that much time together working for 8-12 hours a day towards a goal. You both get into routines.
