    Tripod or new binoculars?

This is my third year hunting. I started with entry-level vortex binoculars, but it did not take long to realize their limitations. I’ve got elk and mulie tags for this fall, and the mule deer hunt is in open desert country. I need to up my glassing capabilities. I was looking at high-powered...

    New Mexico Elk Draw 2024

Got deer and elk! The units aren’t great, but at least I get to go. Remember that turkey, bear, and cougar are OTC.

They’re colored brown. Could be a light color black bear. Let me go dig out my trail cam pics…

    Best Books for Bear

Don’t have a dog, and my friend who does says his dog is “scared of ducks” so hounds probably aren’t an option. Is there info on other methods?

    Best Books for Bear

I’m in New Mexico, so still the west, but much drier than Washington. I’ve seen both black and brown bears on my trail cameras, but maybe that book is close enough to get me started.

    Best Books for Bear

I’m considering a DIY bear hunt for this fall. Does anyone have a favorite book on bear and/or cougar hunting? They are some of the few OTC hunts in my state and I’ve heard the meat is tasty.

    NM Landowner Cow Tags

There’s a NM elk hunters group on Facebook that had a number of folks offer tags for sale late in the season.

Gear that lasted over 20 years

I have the same gun, also about 20 years old. The guy at the sporting goods store saw me hand my lawn-mowing money to my dad (I was under age at the time) and gave me 10 bucks off. Not fancy but it still works.

    Rifle Sling Recommendation

I’ll out in another vote for this one. I will say though that it worked itself out of adjustment over time so may need a daily re-adjust to remain comfortable.

Bataan Death March - Rucking Marathon

I’ve been using Mike Prevost’s program with good results, but I’ll look up Shaul’s program and see what I want to incorporate. Thanks!

Bataan Death March - Rucking Marathon

No time like the present! Registration fees go up at the end of the month. Training for elk season I was doing short rucks of 90lbs, and longer rucks at 70 lbs. For this I was thinking of adding a run day and cutting my weight back to 50-60 lbs and focusing on increasing my speed, with a goal...

Bataan Death March - Rucking Marathon

Has anybody done this event? https://bataanmarch.com/ Or something like it? Thinking of entering in the heavy category. I work out much more consistently when I have a goal, and this would be a big motivator for staying fit through the winter until the draw results get released in April. If...

    Darned my sweater

Snagged my sleeve on some scrub oak and tore a big hole in one of my favorite sweaters. Decided to darn the hole to prevent the hole from getting worse. I had never darned anything before but it turned out to be pretty easy; it just took a long time. This style of darning is called a Swiss darn...
