    Best Optic Investment

Binos. If I could only pick one alpha glass to ever own it would be Swarovski 10x42 NLs.

Another Bino Thread - Low Light Priority

No. I live on a farm and glass a pasture with a 500 yard treeline daily. Everyone is different but to my eyes the 10s don't gain anything over the 8.5s at 200-300 yards. I've become a sucker with specialization for my optics. The 10x42s SLCs were like a gateway drug for me. But I don't think...

Another Bino Thread - Low Light Priority

These two choices are exactly what I would look for to meet your criteria. Although you'll likely need to spend about $1,450-1,500 for the Swaros. I'd try to get both and sell the second choice. I picked up the Swaro 8.5x42 used on Rokslide this year and they are my new favorite for archery...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I let my daughter choose between my suppressed Rokslide Special, my suppressed custom .260, and my Browning BAR .243. The Browning was the rifle I shot my first buck with. The custom .260 is a rifle I put together as a hybrid target and deer gun (prior to this Rokslide thread), and of course my...

Your (limited to 3) top gear items for 2024

2024 was not big new gear year for me. Some replacements. Some new stuff that doesn't stand out. 1. Swarovski EL 8.5x42 - I finally got my hands on these. They seem to hit a sweet spot for ergonomics, exit pupil, eye relief, twilight factor, depth of field, etc, etc, for my eyes. Amazing...

Would you sell Bitcoin for a Sheep hunt?

I sold my Bitcoin about 9 years ago to buy a Winchester Model 70. I think I could pay off my mortgage with that now. Yes, I think you should go sheep hunting with your Bitcoin.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

My daughter bang flopped her first buck (first animal of any kind) this morning. 77 TMK, supressed Tikka 223. Pics and more to say later, but this combo is simply superb.

    Uphill Athlete

I was disappointed with the Uphill Athlete book. I was expecting much more organized thoughts and applications for normal working folks. No doubt the science is sound for performance in the mountains, but the book was not good. I'd recommend just using the free articles and podcasts they publish...

    Archery market (bows)

Compound bows are like smart phones. Incremental changes each year. I see no reason to change the business model. I also see no reason to upgrade every year. Every 4-5 years seems like a the sweet spot for me. Most bow companies are really only bringing out new features or tech every two to...

    2025 Mathew’s Bows

The 33 felt easier for sure. Just super linear and smooth into the back wall. Both felt locked into the back wall as good as any bow I've shot. For comparison, I shoot a Revolt X in performance, which some think is harsh, but I like it. The 29.5 I would have to get used to the sharper string...

    2025 Mathew’s Bows

I shot the Lift X 29.5 and 33 yesterday at 28", 70#. Both really nice. I may buy one.

    Revic BLR10b Rangefinding Binoculars

I bought Leica Geovid Pros last month during their sale. it put the Leica's at the same price as these Revics and I preferred the ergonomics of the Leica. I would've bought Revics for sure at this $1000 off price. They've torched the resale value for now. Great sale though.

Dang. I may still buy one if I get a little tipsy before the sale ends.

    Darton Sequel st2?

I'll try to find a place to shoot the new Darton bows because I think their timing adjustment is a genius application of KISS. I don't need it, but I'll at least add it to my "want to shoot" list. Currently: 1. Mathews Lift X 29.5 & 33, 2. PSE Mach 30 & 33 3. Darton Sequel st2 31 & 33
