I'm excited to hear what everyone finds in Oregon during this hunt. I've found on low country October 15 mule deer seasons in Wyoming that many of the bucks are still in bachelor groups and in the same general vicinity as the summer. If you're up outside of Cody, WY, however, the migration has...
All still holding minus one little buck of the last 15 or so I've seen since Sept 4th. I have video of bucks shedding velvet almost in-sync on the 4th the last two years. So later here in Central WY for sure.
I'm glad @robby denning talked some sense into you! Haha. Archery mule deer is such a darn fun hunt - especially for solo hunters. Love to see it man! Congrats again!
Congrats on that tag! It should be dang good. That winter range seemed like it was in the snow shadow all winter.
I just glassed a spot last night where the first time I saw 1 deer - a small buck on July 10th. Counted 16 deer, and 9 were bucks yesterday evening using the same glassing knob.
Seems like some great advice above. Pick the terrain you want to run around in and let 'er rip! Take note the archery dates are later since you started doing your research, so they won't have velvet on quite as long as before.
Most guys I'm talking to are finding 15-20 bucks a day, but when I ask them, they realize they hadn't counted in previous years. There are a couple of places on the west side of the range where numbers haven't been as good, but I'm getting messages like this that they're showing up now.
I think...
Three different buddies have turned up shooter Western Wyoming bucks in the last 10 days. I'd like to know if other folks are seeing more bucks in the alpine all of a sudden (last two weeks).
This is the kind of thing that guys are experiencing...
We always talk about how development, roads, feral horses, etc., etc,. impact public land quality. Welp, here's where the rubber meets the road - Resource Management Plans.
The draft for the Rock Springs RMP just was released this morning and in it are four prescriptions for how to manage this...
I hunt a ton of this kind of stuff where I live. I always find bucks a half-mile to a mile up in the sagebrush above the ag they hit at night. It just takes a deer a couple of minutes to get to and from feed from that distance.
My area has smaller ag fields that are all hay - alfalfa, timothy...
Man, I'm not sure. The high country just got a hard frost yesterday, and some plants are curing out, so I could see a world where they'll be earlier to shed their velvet. I just don't have enough experience under my belt to really say. @robby denning ? @Travis Hobbs ?
I've been keeping track of various hunters I know who are scouting G & H. Consistently getting reports of 15-25 bucks per weekend. Generally better numbers on the east side where they could have migrated out towards Pinedale, Farson, Red Desert, etc. More spotty on the west side of the regions...
There’s no way there will be any entries here. All the mule deer died last winter. 😜
Seriously - I love seeing all the critters in the thread and the smiling faces on all the hunters. Can’t wait!
Selling these 10" Danner Thorofare boots (non-insulated). Asking $100 shipped. Smokin' deal for someone! They sell for $560 new.
I'll take PP F&F or Venmo
I thought they'd be my preferred boot for later-season rifle hunting, but I just haven't reached for them at all since I got them - I stick...
