    Game on

Man, it sure is nice to get to live through someone else's hunt while you're stuck at work. Good luck, and keep 'em coming!

Backpack guys that set up camp in the middle of a basin.....

TJ, I agree 100% with what you're saying. Rokslide is about backcountry hunting, which is about gear, physical condition, AND how to hunt. The only point I'm trying to make is that we all like to focus on things like gear and comparing workouts, but I'd like to see just as much information...

    The Mule Deer Project

I think just about everyone around here would love to see it "live", myself included. However, I know this particular hunt is a big deal for Cindy and I want success for her more than anything. I'll be happy reading about it afterward it that's necessary.

Backpack guys that set up camp in the middle of a basin.....

Of course not. But I think the statement couldn't be more true. Seems like guys focus way too much on their physical condition, having the best gear, etc. and not nearly enough on becoming a good hunter. To be fair, I think that's the result of guys who don't live near the mountains doing...

Driving to Colorado in a Civic to hunt elk

If I saw someone at a gas station or eating with a bull rack strapped to a Civic I'd have to come shake your hand. Getting it done while saving money, can't beat that. I was actually thinking about taking a Camry out next summer on a scouting trip but wondered the same thing about trailheads...

Big mule deer here I come :)

Robby, thanks for all the effort you've put into preparing for your hunt this year. Your record speaks for itself so I watch what you do. Your last video of your trip to CO and buck in ID really helped me and inspired me. The whole scouting process kind of clicked for me after watching it. I...

    tripod heads compare

Glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with this. I sent Luke a PM about and am still having trouble. Maybe a quick video is in order?

Help! I have a new Garmin 62sc and Hunting GPS Maps Topo

I have a Mac as well and was able to get the Hunting GPS maps on to my Garmin Oregon 450t. This was about a year ago and it was a bit of a process. I honestly can't remember the steps. Don't be afraid to contact Hunting GPS maps, and Garmin as well. I do know I had to use these instructions...

Please Welcome Matt Cashell to are Pro Staff

Bout time. Seems more like a formality as he's been a trusted source on gear reviews for some time. Good addition.

    Backpacking/Fishing/Gear Testing w/ the Kiddo.

Thanks for the write up BB. I really enjoy seeing things like this as I want to be able to introduce my children to the outdoors in a way that they grow to love it like me. It's so good to see a dad actually being a dad. Way to go!

Anybody using american made Danners ?

I have some discontinued Foothills, essentially a brown Acadia. They are great for the Midwest, but I'm thinking about trying a mountain boot like the Crispi. I've not had any major problems, but the support seems just a little soft the 2 times I've had them out west. The insole is only a heel...

How much does your gear cost for your hunts?

Come on BB, we all are curious about yours. You can exclude optics if you want. I'll add mine up tomorrow. Too late to think that hard.

    Searching for West

I think it looks pretty cool. Probably not an exact portrayal of a real hunt for all of the reasons mentioned, but what movie is real to those who have first hand experience. It's kind of like watching any movie that had a plane in it with my late grandfather who investigated plane crashes -...

Deer/Elk Combo hunts. Big Opportunity or big Compromise?

I'd rather focus on one species. I just don't see it realistically working out all that often. I hate the way MT does it where a combo tag greatly increases your odds for a deer tag. Much of the deer country in the east isn't even good elk country, but you can be sure to get a tag if you buy...

Colorado Temperatures at 11-12k feet in Mid September

How do you all know what the temperature is when you're in the backcountry? I've often thought it would be nice to know the temp when I'm leaving in the morning, but I don't carry any kind of thermometer.

    Article on Rain Gear

I've been looking into non-camo rain gear as it seems to be better and cheaper. For example, Mountain Hardwear's DryQ Elite is said to be rated at 40,000 waterproof and 30,000 breathability in some products. I found a jacket in black for like $185. Does anyone know what waterproof rating is...

    What is your tree setup?

I had my LW and sticks out this past weekend trimming trees for a setup. The sticks are great to trimb limbs around your tree for shooting lanes. Can get just high enough pretty quickly. My dad was with me and I commented that the whole setup was one of the best hunting investments I have...

    2012 Whitetail hunts.....

+1 I hear leasing costs are getting up there as well. Anyone ever use the lease clubs like MAHA (Mid America Hunting Association)?

    What is your tree setup?

I have been using the LW Assault the past few seasons. I only have 3 steps with it, but I absolutely love the thing. I hunt a lot of public land and am very leary about leaving my stand up. This thing makes it possible to hunt just about anywhere. And I can't find a need for more than one...
