    Feathered Friends Question

It has not retained loft nearly as well as the other down jackets I've had, with comparable levels of use. The current loft/R per ounce is more on par with a synthetic than high quality down. There is some pretty extensive documentation of the issue on backpackinglight.

    $1000 binos

It's not real hard to find used Zeiss T* FL's for under 1K. Them and the Meostar's are right in there...Zeiss's better to my eye.

    Feathered Friends Question

Having owned a puffy with hydrophobic down and using it hard for a couple years, I probably won't own another piece that uses it.

    First Rangefinder

Laser quality costs money for sure. I'd set your price and go from there. If you can stomach used electronics the market is pretty soft for older Leica's.

WTS Zeiss Victory T* FL 10x42

A couple of months ago I sold a pair of these to a member of another forum. He noted an interior defect that I did not notice, and pointed it out graciously. I refunded his money, he sent them back to me, and I shipped them in to Zeiss for warranty repair. Zeiss sent me back a different factory...

    Canister Stoves

It used to be that Soto was the only micro canister stove readily available that had a micro-regulator. Now others have caught up. I've found the inefficiencies of a standard canister stove and Ti pot in terms of heat transfer compared to the JB and Windburner to make it REALLY rare for me to...

News that’s gonna rock the mule deer world!

And here I thought the big news was gonna be that Rokslide was going to officially support HB002 in WY...haha, too soon? Kidding, I bet that was a neat experience watching that buck and making it happen. Good for him!

    Outdoor Research Pants

Good question. The 36's have a 33" inseam which is fine for me because they "drape" nicely...man that sounds fruity. I wouldn't (and don't) dry them hot in the dryer though. They are good enough size-wise for me that I have a couple pairs for the field and just bought another to wear around the...

    Outdoor Research Pants

I Should add I am generally a 34x34 and I have to go 36" in these to get the thigh big enough, despite being pretty regular build in the thigh/butt.

    Outdoor Research Pants

I've worn Ferrosi's a bunch for the last 5 years or so. Tough to beat IMO for about May-Sept for me. They are tough enough, but will start to "fuzz up" over time. Not a problem per se, just a function of being on the light and stretchy end of the softshell continuum. The shorts are great every...

Hilleberg Allak, green, original owner. Hilleberg Allak It is in very good condition but has been used. Always dried carefully before packing, no mildew or odors. No rips, holes, or tears; zippers are smooth. There are some dirt marks and scuffs from general use. I just got the fly back from...

Hilleberg Rogen vs Hilleberg Anjan2 vs Hilleberg Niak

I have the Allak and Niak, and have used the Nallo's a bit. I'm not sure there's a 3 season tent out there that's burlier than the Niak...that said if you gotta have bomber, the Allak is awesome, and very nicely featured for spending time in. It feels larger than it is due to the door layout...

How do floorless guys stay dry???

You guys know a tipi with a nest is a pointy tent right? :) ha I've used polycro a few times, usually Tyvek though. Polycro is extremely tear resistant, it's the punctures you gotta watch close for. Tyvek isn't really much lighter than a sil groundsheet, but it and polycro are conveniently...

    Solo hunter

Yes, solo almost exclusively. Main challenges: mental engagement/toughness, carrying more crap Main advantages: maximum efficiency and focus is possible Enjoyment comes down to the experience meeting the expectation. As long as I adequately adjust my expectation for each hunt I'm fully...
