We used to process around 800 WG animals during the season. Now add in the domestic at the same time. When Covid hit we did so many domestic animals we had no room for WG. Which was a hard decision to make after 30 years but we certainly don’t miss the mess and smell. 🤣 in the fall and winter we...
This is how I got started. Just me, my dad, and an older brother. Converted one half of our garage into a small cutting room. We cut and wrapped everything in that little room until 1998. Added a separate wrapping room, rail system, and a bigger cooler and freezer. Did that till we built a large...
It won’t take long at 250 degrees. I would shoot for a done temp around 170 degrees. Also, if you have a brine needle then I would inject the bird. I usually use an injection that I use for all my commercial hams. The white meat ends up being way better than the dark. Also, the type of wood you...
Those look like bloodstains. You need to degrease in dawn soap and ammonia then whiten after it dries and sits for a while to see if any more stains appear. Scrub inside and outside of horn sheaths with dawn soap and either ammonia or pinesol works really well.
30-06, 270, 308, 7mm-08 would be my choices. Choose something that you can find ammo for in any sporting good store across the country. Ruger American is a great choice. My go to right now is a Browning Abolt in 270 WSM. I’ve had it for 15 years now. Only issue is finding factory ammo but I...
The secret to single pin and even double pin adjustable sights is to not move them in normal hunting situations. Set one at 30 and the other one at about 50. This will cover all normal shots from 10 yds to about 55 yds. Just practice at all those distances and know which pin to use and how the...
I like black gold and shoot a single pin vertical. Can’t go wrong with a spot hogg either but I prefer black gold. My next one will be another MBG but a two pin vertical. Definitely can’t fathom buying one of those $500-$600 sights. 😬
I’m definitely not a speed guy so I don’t even consider that when looking at different bows. As of now, I’m leaning pretty heavily into Elite and Expedition. I’ll wait and see what Matthews has this year as well.
I’ve been tipped a few times but never ever expect it. It was usually when I checked in an animal at 10 pm and had it cut, wrapped and frozen by the next day. I’m an owner and set the prices but I’m also the top cutter as well and stand shoulder to shoulder with my employees everyday cutting and...
Still shooting my 2012 carbon element. I really wanted a new bow last year but dang! They just keep going up in price and the Hoyts just seemed to keep getting heavier. Maybe this is the year for the new Hoyt aluminum bow for me.
That’s great! I tried to get my 13 yr old son his first elk as well but it didn’t work out. Had basically 1 day to hunt and made a beautiful stalk on a group of 8 cows. They ended up seeing/hearing us getting him set up for the shot. Weather rolled in after that plus with sports schedules sure...
