    Wyoming nonresident elk draw thread!

Didn't draw with 0 points and I'm okay with that since I drew in MT and my son drew in AZ. Doubt I'll put in for a point.

    Flying to hunt ?

I've posted this various times, but I discuss many of the issues you're considering in this video.

    Rental for sept hunt

Yes, I was assuming your bow/gear would be the first 2 bags. You are correct. It's with the 3rd+ bags. I've had up to 4 additional coolers.

    Rental for sept hunt

I do the same thing every year. As others have mentioned it will be $75 for over 50lbs and $75 if over the 62 linear inches. I've found it best to do multiple smaller coolers (right at 48-50lbs), but it can get difficult with the number of coolers when I'm by myself at the airport. I put the...

    Official Montana 2022 draw thread!

Drew a general elk combo with zero points. No one else in my party. I guess I've got a lot of planning to do.

    Arizona CC hits coming Friday...

My son drew 4B either sex tag from 12/16-12/31 with no points. I realize how lucky he is.

    Drew an AZ elk tag

My NR son drew 4B on the 12/16-12/31 hunt on his first try (I know, I know). I'm happy to see him get lucky and have the opportunity. I already told him that we'll be working hard at the range this Summer/Fall.

    Florida Fishing Trip

Just got back from there. Can't go wrong with patch reef fishing. Lots of good eating fish and plenty of action. I like the boats out of Robbie's better than Bud N'Mary's. Grab a kayak out of Robbie's and check out the backwater with your own rod. Plenty of nice snook and snapper in the those...

    Arizona CC hits coming Friday...

Wow, just checked my statement and see $650 for my son's application that I put in. I logged back on to the AZ Game and Fish site and how can I tell which hunt he drew? It says pending.

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

I disagree regarding the pressure based on my observations and those of others hunting nearby units. From the amount of dirtbikes, off-road vehicles and just weekend campers I see, I don't think pressure will be a factor in moving the elk. I have a buddy who camps in the unit all Summer and he...

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

Only for 6 years. I'm a relative newcomer.

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

Not whining, just trying to propose a solution to something that would somewhat alleviate the need, but have minimal impact on the elk population. Again, if you look at the archery numbers (and whatever subset of these are NR kills) I just don't see that big of an impact to the populations...

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

I typically hunt 7 days. I think this is near average for most NR. As it currently stands most hunters hunt weeks 2-3 anyways. With the current allocations I don't think it be over pressured. Heck, this September was the least amount of hunters I've ever seen in the units I hunt.

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

For instance lets say the OTC archery success rate is at 10%. I don't think that doubling the numbers of NR archery hunters would significantly impact the harvest statistics. Just looking at the harvest statistics it seems like way more elk are taken outside of archery season by an order of...

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

Agreed, that it does double pressure, but I'm pretty sure those guys that had the 15th-30th would still be elated to hunt. More elk would definitely get harvested, but I argue with the low success rates, it wouldn't significantly impact the harvest statistics.

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

I think it would. They had way more NR hunters looking for tags then they had tags available. Even if it's 1.5 that's still a win. Again, with the low harvest stats for the first 2 weeks of archery I don't think this would adversely impact herd numbers.

Creative solution for increasing numbers of nonresident applications

I was thinking today since I didn't get an Idaho NR tag this year (randomization had me at almost 16k in the queue). I figured since I'd rather have some type of opportunity, what about the following: Archery season would be broken down into two mini-seasons Sept 1-15th and 15-30th, each with...
