Chalk one up for the good guys....

Well again, the regs aren't an aspirational moral code. I can do a lot of things legally that most reasonable people would agree are reprehensible.

Chalk one up for the good guys....

Daniel, I respect your thoughts here. I'm just saying I will not support every hunter's practice in the field. We can police ourselves or someone else will. I do hope it's the former, so my future grandchildren have the privilege of hunting like I do.

A man can certainly aspire to a higher personal code than that written by the state legislature.

    Bikes in Wilderness Again

Humans (well, most of them) don't weigh nearly enough to cause that type of damage. I used to do legal work for an organization that held control over thousands of acres of land in western Colorado under a Special Use Permit. In that position, I dealt annually with tens of outfitters (guides...

Chalk one up for the good guys....

All forms of hunting are not equal or the same. I don't mind giving another hunter a black eye if he's doing something lazy, unethical, etc.

    Bikes in Wilderness Again

I appreciate the trail maintenance that you do. Horseback riding in wilderness seems like a "historical" use of such areas, and I'm not opposed to it. I do know wilderness areas where trail damage from outfitters is so bad (western portions of the West Elk Wilderness) that local hikers avoid...

Chalk one up for the good guys....

Interesting discussion. Still, hunting bears over bait gives hunters everywhere a black eye. If the Feds don't regulate it, then the State should step up and do it. This issue easy falls into the bucket labeled "if hunters don't regulate themselves then the voters certainly will."

    Bikes in Wilderness Again

There are already MASSIVE areas open to mountain biking. Everywhere outside congressionally-designated wilderness areas. Leave wilderness alone.

+1 Even worse is finding yourself in a basin with domestic cattle and fresh cow pies everywhere.

Fly Fishing Set-up for backpacking... Not Tenkara

Love my 7'6" Orvis 3wt Superfine Carbon. It feels like it was made specifically for backpack fishing on timberline creeks or lakes.

    Handheld Radio Communication

I know a few mountaineers that climb or backcountry ski big mountains. They use small handheld units and it works because they are way up high - line of sight. Base camp talking to summit party. I frequently carried a radio in the Army and you never know if the dang thing is going to work...

Left eye dominant right handed youth shooter?

I forgot to mention, I had two eye doctors (including an eye surgeon) in my family who urged me to respect his eye dominance over his hand dominance in shooting sports. Good luck!

Left eye dominant right handed youth shooter?

Your son is exactly like my oldest boy. When he was 8 I realized he was left eye dominant. I bought him a left handed Matthews bow to practice archery with. He had no problems after a short introductory period. After he passed hunter safety, I got him a left-handed bolt action Savage .22 to...

Which temp rating Enlightened Equipment quilt?

I have the 20 and sent it back for extra down fill, after getting cold a couple times last year in September. It's a 10 degree now.

How Would You Play It - Timberline Elk Hunt

Set up in some scrub pine, watch the wind, wait and see if they come towards me and estrus call if they get close.

    Overnight load question

I just stuff my Markhor. Only thing I pay attention to is putting weight (water) a little higher up in the pack and close to my back.

    Joe Rogan and Pot

I'd like to see some long term studies regarding the effects of marijuana on youth. In my experience, people advocating for legalization of marijuana conveniently gloss over the effects it may have on young people. To date, all I've read is that pot is quite possibly bad for the development of...

    Joe Rogan and Pot

tipsntails7, I think we're on the same sheet of music. Here's another cautionary tale for parents: I have three boys and my oldest graduated high school last year. He was an all-state athlete, captain of the team, sang in concert choir, dated a girl who modeled for Wilhelmina, and earned his...
