    Picking a camera...help

My experience was different for stills / video mix. The Sony 24-240mm - possible the worst lens in the FE lineup - in front of modern Sony BSI FF beat my m43 lens catalog. I actually didn’t understand how it was possible, I was in denial too, but side by side, it takes Oly Pro 1.2 or Nocticron...

    Picking a camera...help

For video in particular and also general purpose photography, there are many great lenses in the Sony E and FE mirrorless catalog. For super telephoto and wildlife, there are less (you would have to use adapters). For stills only, I 100% agree Olympus is a great choice as long as you don’t...

    Picking a camera...help

What percentage of shots / video are you planning for the following? - Family and kids - Nature and travel in general - Wildlife (super telephoto) Your answer for the above can help narrow your options in a positive way. For example, with video in the mix, plenty of crop sensor mirrorless...

    Is Cabela’s played out?

I lost respect for Cabelas when they overwhelmingly started to market their own label in the store. They and others like them have effectively stolen the businesses that they were built on.

Outdoorsman adapter and what tripod on a budget? 10x42 effectiveness?

Just the grip. Keep it simple... though... Its not great for a spotter. I’d run their micro pan in addition, if I used a spotter more.

Outdoorsman pistol grip and related attachments.

Outdoorsman adapter and what tripod on a budget? 10x42 effectiveness?

No bending or stooping ever with the pistol grip. It’s about level with a standard tripod head. The 633 is the 3 section, the 634 is the 4 section. I prefer the 3 section but it doesn’t fit in my SG spotter pockets.

Vortex UHD / Maven B5 18x56 Novice Comparison.

Thanks that’s what I was looking for. I haven’t had the opportunity to glass that distance with the UHD 18, only to spot check between them and the SLC HD inside of 800 or so. I sold my little spotter a few years ago and was thinking of a SW mule deer hunt where maybe I’d bring one. But now I...

    Zeiss 15x56 quality?

The SLC HD’s bring back more details, are lighter, and are smaller. However, this is not to knock the Conquest HD’s. They are great binos too. The optics feel eerily similar, similar coatings, brightness, sharpness across the FOV, whereas the and Meopta options do not to my eyes. If I had to...

Outdoorsman adapter and what tripod on a budget? 10x42 effectiveness?

I stand and glass 50% of the time with 12’s and am 6’. My favorite value tripods are the SLIK 633 CF and 634 - the 633 requires less adjustment but doesn’t collapse as small as the 634 so you’ll have to store in it a main compartment or outside the bag. They are both ultralight and stable...

Vortex UHD / Maven B5 18x56 Novice Comparison.

For the UHD’s, at what point or in what setting do you think that they could replace the little Vortex or Nikon 50mm spotters?

    Would you bother reloading?

No chance. My skill set is 500 yards in the field. That’s over the counter territory. No need to burn precious time on reloading any longer.

    KUIU

They are good quality - some of the best technical hunting clothing available. Don’t expect it to be super warm though for stationary hunting. It’s not the stated purpose of their gear. Only one dig from me. I recall Kuiu gained popularity by marketing that they were made in “North American”...

    Mean income.....

It’s more a question of time for these big ticket items. Budgeting and saving well for decades allows for “big” expenses to look small. A $5k optic sounds expensive in your 20s, but at 60, it’s a 0.25% daily move in your retirement fund. If that’s your only hobby, and you are still...

The goal was to buy it for a more reasonable price. A few posts later, that’s evidently not happening.
