If it works on a deer it’ll work on a black bear! As for scent control, you’re just going to have to play the wind. They can smell better than any other animal out there. If you’re hunting over bait I’d be more concerned about finding a good location than caliber or scent control. 👍🏼 Good luck!

I’d be much more worried about thieves! There’s so much unnatural human activity around trail heads in hunting season that it tends to keep the bears away.
So it’s a regular road to a well marked forest service access point. There’s the regular “private property next 6 miles” where the road turns to dirt and goes towards the access point. There’s maybe 4 signs along the 6 miles that just sprouted up this year.

It’s a well used public road through a private ranch.
