    Base Camp Etiquette?

I'd add this too - if we were talking about an outfitter camp, there would be no discussion. Those guys are trying to make a living and have permitted areas to hunt and camp. I steer clear of their operation as best as I can. And since someone is sure to ask, I know this wasn't an outfitter...

    Base Camp Etiquette?

Yes, it was a nicer tent! Mtmiller - I know there was no gear in the tent because when I got there a big storm was blowing in and we threw up our tents in a hurry to get out of the storm, figured we would make a decision while we hunkered down (set our tents about 50 yards away). A few hours...

    Base Camp Etiquette?

So you hike in several miles, and several days, before the opener to set your base camp in your preferred location. The goal is to set camp and sit tight until the season opens, due to the fact that decent camp locations are few and far between in your area. When you get there you find an...

--Ok, Guys/Gals We have our towns picked out for Co vacation. Need advice please!!--

Ridgway Lodge and Suites is just north of Ouray on 550. 10 min from Ouray. Nice hotel w/ indoor pool for the kids. Great prices and very nice people. True Grit cafe in Ridgway has one of the best hamburgers I've had and some beautiful mounts for the kids to check out.

My Trip Of A Life Time

The pronghorns were waterproof the first season I had them, not so much the second. And I use sno-seal extensively. I have a friend who swears by pronghorns but he buys a new pair every year so he can keep his feet dry.

    4x4 rental

Find the closest outfitter permitted in the area you plan to hunt. Their guys are always looking to make a little extra cash. Bet they would be willing to meet you and get you to your drop off location. As an added bonus that will give you someone who knows where you are if you run into any...

    Stove-less

Check out the esbit stove at rei to go with them. 3.25 ounces, works great and will set you back all of $10. Plan on 2 cubes to boil water above 10k and/or below 40 degrees.

My Trip Of A Life Time

Good for you. I feel an obligation to offer you some unsolicited advice I learned the hard way. Take it for what it's worth. If you take your Danner Pronghorns be sure you bring the 1-800 number for Danner so you can call and thank them for ruining your trip. The Pronghorns are about as...

    New Kifaru wood stove????

Anyone know if the new stove will run the same size pipe? I was about to order a sawtooth and would like to have the option of using the new stove when it comes out. I'll give them a call tomorrow but just curious in the interim. Also makes me wonder if we'll see a sale on the "old" stove...

    Quitting Copenhagen!!!!!!

The first few days are the worst. Make it easy on yourself, dump out your can(s) at the trailhead. Then you have no way to dip no matter how bad you want to. Saves a couple ounces in your pack as a bonus!

    West Texas Aoudad Rams

Any other guide / outfitter / ranch recommendations in West Texas (free range)? I was looking at Desert Safaris and All Seasons Guide Service, to name a few. Not a lot of reviews to be found on free range aoudad outfitters. Whats interesting is the amount I've seen prices vary. From what I...
