I don’t so much have a backup as one that is identical to my other release and I’ve been switching which one I use every time I shoot. I labeled them “A” and “B” with a sharpie. This way my backup is always correctly adjusted and ready to go without any change in trigger or anchor point.
There are several examples out there of hard cast doing it’s job when it really counts. Here is one.

Here is another (with a 9mm)...
I use 405 grain 45-70 for mule deer and elk. My buddy used 420 grain 45-70 for a Kodiak brown bear. Both obviously heavier than a 200 or 220 grain .40 caliber bullet and obviously going faster. Though I don’t think it matters much so long as penetration is good. The theory is that the wide...
This proves you have at least three fingers. Good job counting 👍
Did you serve? I was wondering if you are part of the same tough guy Chicken Hawk club that is all the rage with the right wing today.
If you served, thanks. You’ve earned your right to your opinions and we can just disagree. If...
I like this idea if hunting with a partner. Assuming you both take care of/pack out the animal if either person gets a kill. By myself I’ll need to think about it more. I think I really would rather put the quarters left behind in bags.
-protection from bugs
-easier to hang
-easier to identify...
Only ones I’ve seen in WY so far have been a long way off and at a dead run. Buggers have been educated. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting into trapping. I don’t want to marry a trap line so I’ll just keep doing the norm for me. Going out occasionally and calling.
I have and he isn’t. Nice try though fella.
His personal choice to not hunt predators is up to him and doesn’t effect you. He isn’t campaigning to stop anyone else. My decision to hunt everything I hunt is a personal choice.
Thanks so much for setting me straight.
I’ll PM you if I need...
I gotcha. I have a good friend in AK that hunts. He doesn’t hunt wolves and isn’t thrilled that I do. We don’t talk about it much and our friendship is more important than that small difference of opinion.
In my barely educated opinion this is not a good example of what hard cast bullets can do. I’ve personally dumped mule deer and elk with cast lead. A good friend dumped a fair size Kodiak with cast. In my experience they are very effective for hunting when placed well… However, for bear...
I think Jeff was scratching her belly. Bill was off camera playing with the pups. You can clearly see that Don was saying “who’s a good girl?”. Though it’s unclear if he was talking to Hillary or the wolf.
That’s pretty spendy but good to know it’s an option if I run out. Cast Performance isn’t even listing the .40” 200 grain WFNGC right now. I think they were around 35 cents each when I bought several boxes.
