Thanks Luke! The pain will be eased the second you look through it. It's leaps and bounds above the Minox as I'm sure you are anticipating. Smart move on ditching the backordered ED50, especially when you are most likely paying less than the $650 for the better Vortex scope!
I need a new sewing machine project so I might get some 3mm neoprene and sew up some snug fitting stay-on protective cases for these scopes. Depending on how they turn out maybe I can make a few for those who are interested. The Vortex cover is great for general travel storage but not all that...
It all comes down to personal preference. My take is, if you're already carrying a tripod for your 15's, then why not toss an extra pound and a half in there for insurance and twice the magnification? Chances are it wouldn't take long to be glad you had it. I'm willing to bet the little Vortex...
I sure will when I get home in a bit.
Dotman, we have an angled 65 coming on the next order. I played with it at the sheep show and really liked it, but I'm actually more of a 50mm guy myself. My tentative plan for this years glassing will be a set of 15x56s in combination with a 50mm spotter...
Yesterdays long outdoor video didn't turn out and I know you guys wanted something, so I winged it and threw this together this morning. I left a number of things out, but let me know if you'd like to see anything else that I didn't touch on here. I'll get something else up that shows the...
Yes, a nice one. I'll show it in the video. Give me until noon today to get this thing uploaded guys. Is Vimeo the best route? I see more of those videos on here than youtube links anymore.
Sorry guys, what was supposed to be an 8-10 minute video turned into me talking about these scopes for about 29 minutes. So I need to either re-do it or edit it down shorter. Sorry about that, I figured I would just film a quick deal and upload it unedited but it didn't turn out that way.
Got the 50mm today! Like Elknut said, a great scope that performs beyond its size. I'll try to put together a side by side comparison video with my Nikon ED 50 tomorrow.
CO has some of the more confusing charts to read, but with some practice you can easily calculate them on your own without paying or trusting anyone else's calculations.
Didn't want to hijack the other thread with pics, so why not start a new one? A lot of guys talked about their dads or other family members as the ones who got them started in the field. It would be cool to see some old pics. Post em up.
Here are a few of my dad and I when I was first able to...
My dad. He's been a backpack hunter since before it was "cool", and he's taught me the most about finding, killing, and packing out mature animals in the backcountry. It's fun because now I get to repay him by keeping him up on all the latest gear year to year.
There he is! 52 years young, way...
I'm really curious what the new Kryptek Poseidon will weigh in at. Anybody have intel? It looked and felt like really nice stuff for backpacking in checking it out at the show.
Exactly... when phrases like "fashion faux pas" start getting thrown around in the backcountry, you KNOW the clothing companies have us where they want us!
Congrats Ed! Kinda cool that the top two were taken out of the same mountain range and both were backcountry backpack hunts.
Thanks for the Honorable Mention Robby. Spending the extra time to set up a respectful and respectable field photo is something I take a lot of pride in, so it's nice to...
