I can 't speak to Kuiu but I have been using FL Kanabs for the past two years on CO elk hunts and they worked great. Not the most durable but very comfortable. I use Smartwool medium weight base layers with them and have yet to be cold with this combo. I have also used them here in OK for...
I too usually use solid color pants (drab greens of darker tans) with camo tops. This year I'm going back to Cabela's outfitter camo pattern. It seems to blend in well regardless of where I hunt. I did pick up a pair of their Microtex pants to try this fall.
I usually let my boot help dictate which SF model to use. My Kenetrek's have good arch support and the green SF work well. I have a pair of Asolo Sassalongs and Alico Summits that aren't as good and I have found that the orange model works best. I may have to give their hunt model a try the...
I've used my older merino FL neck gaiter for spring and fall turkey hunting seasons here in OK. Don't think I would want to use in temps much over 65 or 70 degrees.
Check out the old school, Alico Summits. They are constructed with Vibram soles using a Norwegian welt build. The uppers are built using a solid piece of leather and have a very generous toe box. They come in wider sizes and they are the first boots that I have owned where I can comfortably...
Gelton, I use either Obenauf's or Kenetrek Boot wax on most of my leather boots. Obenauf's is still works best for me. I have used HydroBloc Spray for my nubuck/split leather hikers and it is pretty amazing stuff. I have a pair that were water resistant at best and the HydroBloc made them...
I'm with Hi Line Hillbilly! Stormy Kromer's are the best I've found. They have them in all different colors and styles. Most of mine (I have 6 SK's) are either 100% wool or their wool blend, all of which work well for cool to very cold weather. I've used them for the past three years hunting...
I am just under 5'10" and weigh 200 lbs. and have the same waist size as you. My XL First Lite Kanabs fit really well with a little room in the waist for layering. The length is just a tad bit long but works well with my hunting and hiking boots.
I finally had an opportunity to try out a new pair of Cabela's XPG Trekking pants on a long hike that I took to break in a new pair of hiking boots. I can truly say that these pants are the best fitting, most comfortable pants (for hiking and early season hunting) that I own. They provide good...
Before giving up on hiking pants, check out Cabela's XPG Trekking pants. They have a couple of color schemes that would work well for hunting depending upon where you hunt. Although I have yet to use them in the field, (I just received them) they have just enough stretch that will be helpful...
I have the OR Verglas in low cut model and the Cascadia in the taller model. I use the Verglas mostly for scouting and hiking and the Cascadia for hunting. I've had them both for over 6 years and they have held up very well. You probably already know this but, just a word of caution; make sure...
The brand and pattern I have finally chosen after last year's CO elk hunt is Cabela's Wooltimate jacket and vest and Cabela's Microtex pants and button-up shirt. All of this clothing is in Outfitter Camo pattern. These items mix and match well with my First Lite Kanabs in dry earth color and...
I've worn my Kanabs hunting with 2 different backpacks and a lumbar pack with shoulder straps. The strap adjustment on the Kanabs never caused any discomfort.
I've used both Kenetrek and Obernauf's LP boot wax effectively on my 2 pairs of Kenetreks and the other boots I own. I've never had a problem with rands peeling or other issues. I treat my boots 3 times a year; once at the beginning of hunting season, again at mid-season especially if it has...
I always try on the boots before I purchase, and my rule of thumb is that if the toe box is tight, I go a half size larger, especially if they are insulated boots. The only exception was with my Kenetrek Mountain Extremes. The toe box was a bit tighter but the boot was such a good fit, I took...
I can't recall, but I think I may have had a hot spot on one heel when initially breaking in my Mountain Extremes. I replaced the inserts and have not had a problem since. They are now in their 4th season and are as comfortable as any boot I've ever owned…..and I've had many pairs in my 45+...
I've been lost twice in the last five years elk hunting in CO. Both times I had a Garmin with my truck or camp waypoints marked and both times I chose not to believe what I saw on my Garmin. If I had relied on the Garmin maps and not my poor sense of direction, I probably would have arrived at...
I really like Norma brass. I've use it in my 25-06, 7mm-08 and 9.3x62. In my opinion it is worth the additional cost. Northing wrong with Hornady brass but Norma brass just seems easier to prep and to reload. I have had a bit of trouble with Prvi brass trying to reload for my 9.3x62 but, I...
