True. Don't just believe what a calculator spits out.
I just loaded and trued three rifles with Hammers, two 6.5cm/124g and a 7rm/143g. All three the BC was far lower than advertised. 124g waterline around .208 g7 and the 143g was .190 or so. They are not good in wind and I wouldn't advise...
Given the 500 yard realistic MER, recoil averse, and wanting to shoot factory ammo, you should buy a 6.5cm. It will kill anything in NA within your constraints, ammo is everywhere, and its easy shooting.
Its excellent at low power in all field conditions I've encountered thus far.
five bull elk at 780 yards, freezing misting rain, 6x mag (rifle/phone is leaning):
Same, at 12x:
FWIW, on that hunt I slipped and fell while hiking downhill with rifle in hand. The entire weight of my upper...
Its been over a year since this review started - anyone have any issues with these in the field, primarily in late fall hunting conditions cold/rain/mist/fog/snow? I'm seriously considering these for this upcoming season.
As someone who shoots three tikka rifles chambered in 223 / 22cm / and 6.5cm, I'll ask:
Is 22cal allowed for all big game in NZ, and do you plan to shoot/practice often with your single rifle and keep the barrel for a long time? If so, .223 is probably the answer. Load 80g ELDMs with the Waters...
TS Customs Ghost lightweight self-timing muzzle brake, size large (.990 diameter), 5/8x24. Has about 250 rounds fired. Its in great condition. It weighs 1.1oz on my scale.
These retail for $160 + shipping. I'm selling for $120 shipped.
Its been a while since I did this with something other than the .223. Bare muzzle 6.5cm. Counted the fringe hit for 14/20. Got lucky on the sitting unsupported, need to work on that one and offhand.
Whenever you start feeling good about your shooting, this drill is always a nice kick in the nuts.
10-12" or so. Found more bullet jacket pieces in the offside shoulder while processing.
If you like what Bergers do, you'll like the DRT. Its unlike any other lead-free option I've used/seen.
The Arbuckle match will have some targets that are difficult to find, but will be a great course. My good buddy is the MD. I'll be there to shoot it and RO.
79g DRT hpbt tungsten core (lead free).
160ish pound sow, 2380 fps impact. High shoulder hit resulted in a bang flop. To me it looks like the bullet upset almost immediately and achieved good max wound width (maybe 3" or so?) No exit.
