I carry a hunting knife and a boning knife in the field. I like to have the boning knife if I decide to bone something obviously but I use it for other delicate work as well. Just a personal style thing. When I get home the hunting knife stays in the pack and the boning knife comes into the...
I have an older version of this sight in the parts bin. It's nice. I don't like how the one I have uses screw on sight tapes because I've never gotten the ones for my sight to line up with my arrows as well as I'd like. Not a deal breaker. I ended up using the blank and writing in my own...
I run Cooper Discoverer AT3 or 4...can't remember which on a dead stock Sequoia. I have chains for the rear, a shovel in the back and extra food/water/sleeping bag just in case the shit hits the fan. If it's as bad as you're describing I park and walk.
I went with the Savage 110 Hunter for my son. The adjustable stock has been perfect for his growth. We started out at 12 with about the smallest stock I could configure and now at 14 going on 15 he's up to an adult sized stock. Worth the money in my opinion.
As for caliber I'd decide more...
I'm a big fan of pack liners over pack covers. I made some out of light ripstop silnylon that work really well. I have three in my pack to divide things up a bit.
or maybe just a soft reset:
"To soft reset, hold the X and the Down buttons at the same time for 60 seconds. Once the time has elapsed, release the buttons and power it on normally, by holding the Check button for a couple seconds until the power on confirmation screen appears."
I wonder if it is worth doing a factory re-set and then update again. It would mean you'd have to re-set the device up but it might be worth a try. It just seems odd that your device is acting different after the latest sync/update but mine isn't.
Do you still have to press a button and then...
Doesn't surprise me. I can't even get the tracking to work properly but when I have it sucks down the battery. I don't think it is an OnX issue. I don't think cell phones are well suited to be dropping points for a track and preserving battery. I still use my GPS unit for tracking.
Sounds to me like a case of "planned obsolescence". I bet Garmin would prefer to not be supporting an inherited device from their buyout of Delorme! Who the heck wants a device that powers on with a single tap of a button? My cell phone doesn't do that....nor does my vintage Garmin GPS unit...
OK, I just updated mine. The power button still acts the same with the 3 second hold to turn it on. Not sure what's going on with yours. Mine is the same vintage. If I leave mine on all day it doesn't use as much battery as yours but I don't have it dropping tracking points.
Yikes. If the software update did that it kind of makes the unit less useful! I haven't updated mine yet this season.....I'll have to try and see if the same thing happens.
If it does I might have to find a hard case for it!
I really liked SnoSneal but had a pair of boots loose their sole.....and then again after getting a warranty return. I talked to a shoe maker/repair place and they said they had seen SnoSeal cause that. Maybe it was just that brand of boots. Who knows but I switched and haven't used it in a...
Every all leather boot I've ever owned has never leaked when I keep the leather properly treated. I remember as a kid thinking how cool it was to stand in a stream in my hiking boots. Back then we used SnoSeal. These days I use Obenauf's.
You can pick up the Easton 6.5mm Bowhunter arrows from Lancaster for just a shade under $40 for a half dozen. Decent price for a pretty good arrow. They also have some Gold Tip youth/beginner arrows for a bit less but the Easton ones seem like the sweet spot for me in terms of price and quality.
There's nothing wrong with your GoreTex. Any breathable membrane jacket will do the same thing to varying levels when the outside of the jacket is wet and you are generating moisture inside by sweating. To get rid of the moisture inside it has to pass through the membrane and evaporate off the...
