Last fall my son broke his foot a few weeks before second rifle....doc put him in a walking boot and said don't walk more than 100 yards.....yea well, he brought home a nice buck the third day of the season. He work a really stiff hiking boot and took it easy. It might have delayed his healing...
I would base your decision on fit first and the barrel configuration second. Nothing worse than a pretty gun that you can't hit squat with. If you shoot the Benelli well then take the measurements off that and base your purchases off of that.
Get it looked at by a PT. It might be rotator cuff as much as bicep tendon. Pretty different rehab between the two. Eccentric loading is helpful for tendonitis.
All depends on how you cook/eat. I grind very little. I grind as I go throughout the year if I need it for a meal. I make steaks from all the cuts that can be cooked hot and fast (backstrap, top sirloin, etc.). Depending on the size of the animal the front shoulder may just stay as one...
I've been loading the 120gr match burner for my son's 6.5CM using Accurate 2700 at a charge in the upper 1/3 of the range. It has been a good load for practice. I use the Barnes published reloading recipe.
Yes but it was for a very good reason. They had a death in the family. I hunted solo 95% of the time before my son was old enough so maybe that's why it only happened once ;)
So true. I'm still using my 90% jacket and pants as my primary hunting clothes. Every time I wear them I think about how to repair/reinforce the cuffs that are starting to wear and fray.....I don't know what I will replace them with but the one piece of newer Sitka I have is awfully loud!
I'm all for closing off/reclaiming/whatever old roads (and maybe some of the newer ones too!). How to do it is a conundrum for sure. I've seen folks on 4 wheelers destroy an area detouring around a hefty gate with trucks parked in front of it and very obvious "No Motorized Access" signs...
Agreed about the prices. If they move to direct-to-consumer and keep their prices where they are I won't be buying anything that isn't on a really good sale. That said, even on sale it seems like a lot of their stuff is still pretty pricey.
I wear my Meindl 400g boots for pretty much all my big game hunting including archery season. I only have the one pair of hunting boots so I make them work.
We never had problems with my son hiking in pac boots at 11 or 12 because his attention span and stamina wasn't enough to be out all day in nasty terrain.....or even out all day at all. We focused on just getting in the field and hunting as much as he was wanting to. after the first couple of...
Yep. Pack boots. Simple, warm, affordable. That's what my son wore for the first two or three years of hunting. Replaced them with some Rocky brand boots that were on a 60 or 70% off sale. He's still wearing them at 15 going on 16. I'm quite surprised they have held up as long as they have.
Yea, they are expensive. Cheaper than some other options but still expensive. That said, if you get a good company the end result is pretty amazing. We had them put into our 1950 house and their laser measurement system resulted in a perfect fit. They literally walked the finished counter...
Factory and hand loaded 168 gr TTSX in 30-06 and 120 gr TTSX in 6.5CM have been successful for me. Four deer (two with each caliber) and all shots under 200 yards and full pass through both lungs. All died within 10 or 20 yards. I've a notion to switch to the Hammers for the shedding petals...
I bought a set of the VIAM ones. They work great. That said, I haven't tried any of the other ones. I bought them based on a couple of reviews. They are pretty solid bags for the weight I do have to say.
