    2021 moose

My buddy took this nice 65" bull this year! Came in hot and went down with one shot with the 7mm Ultra Mag at 260 yards. HE was a big bodied bull, largest I have seen and I have seen quite a few over the years. I had to weigh his hind quarter, this is the whole leg on the bone cut off at the...

    2021 moose

I got this fella this year. This is the first time I have shot a bull that had his brow tines as his widest points. He stretched 57" from widest brow tine to widest brow tine. His top palm to top palm widest point was 54" 477 Yards. .300 Win Mag pushing 212g Hornady Eldx's

What the closest face-to-face encounters you've had with animals while hunting?

Parked my wheeler next to a alder patch and walked about 100 yards to a little spot I could call moose from and see down a swamp for a long ways. Called away for a few hours then decided to bag it an walked back to the wheeler. I slid my gun into the gun boot and flopped the end together to...

    7mm-08 for Alaska Bear

Saw a over 8' boar grizz that got thumped in the chest with a 7mm 08 last year. One shot dumped it, brisket and internals destroyed.

    Camping With Baby Tips

I have four kids that we have been taking out up here in Alaska over the years. My gear list certainly swells exponentially when the littles and the wife are along. The secret is keeping momma happy, if you can do that, the kids tend to fall in line. A box of wine helps. Just don't try to...

thread adapter for 300 win mag suppressed? 1/2-32 to 5/8-24 adapter

I have the same adapters on 2 of my guns. Some people will give you shit about using adapters and 'stacking tolerances', but I have put a whole lot of rounds down range and its never been a problem. Buddies have been shooting for years with the same set ups with zero issues.

    Alaska tent

I'm running a 12X12 with a vestibule, family of 6. I can put 2 sets of bunk cots in it, and 2 pads on the floor, or even a queen air mattress in between the cot sets. I'm running off of wheelers, so weight isn't really a issue. The vestibule is key, nice to store gear out of the weather. A...

    Hunting Suppressor

I also used a Griffin Sportsman Ultra Light 300. I like the weight of it, but I do not like the taper mount I have to use with it. Maybe that wouldn't bother some but direct thread is the better choice IMO.

    Horse Hunting Alaska

Out of the 26 Controlled Use Areas, only two do not allow pack animals, as per this - https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=conservationareas.controlleduse If one was going to own a few horses anyway, there are some great places in the state right off the road system they can ride/hunt and...

    First time Alaska trip questions

A lot of the horror stories people hear about hunting the 40 mile herd stem from when chunks of the herd stray to close to the road. A lot of people are simply road hunters for this hunt, and when a large chunk of the herd comes face to face with a large 'firing line' of 'hunters' taking pop...

Side effects of lasik/prk and the outdoor experience

I'm sure the technology for PRK has changed since I had it done over a decade ago. I had some eye gadget hold my eyes open, some drops in my eyes that made them completely numb. I laid on the table, and they swung a machine arm over my face, told me to stare at the red dot and do not move. I...

Side effects of lasik/prk and the outdoor experience

For the amount of money I see people spend on gear, I cannot fathom why they wouldn't spend money to get corrective eye surgery. I got PRK 11 years ago and I have zero side effects. Even if it gave me dry eyes, I would be more than happy to carry around some eye drops vs fogging up...

    Horse Hunting Alaska

There's some non-motorized areas in the state, some pretty big ones, that I have watched horse hunters mosey on up through after I got flown in. Pretty jealous of them at the time. I lived right next to a small ranch that guided via horse back up in Cantwell, AK growing up, the guy did pretty...

Advice on how to fix where I am hitting.

On your VX-5, is this a CDS dial that you turned in with your ballistic data? If so, this could explain your elevation issues if you gave them bad data, but the pulling to the right is hard to blame on a elevation turret. Not saying it still can't be your scope. If you can create a group at...

    Kestrel

I went and got a kestrel 2500NV for help in my long range shooting quest. Found out later my phone and Strelok App does everything I needed it to do for that aspect, internal barometer, etc. The kestrel is small enough that I still pack it in my bino pouch, mainly because I like to guess wind...
