I was over spinning 88s in a 1/7 and they would blow up about 1 in 10 of them. I don’t know of any other heavies where it’s an issue. Try to not overheat your barrel, shoot for the moon on velocity, and hope your barrel doesn’t chew them up..
For the last 3 seasons (this one still going)
Elk and mule deer
Prone: 3
Sitting: 5
Standing unsupported: 2
Historically sitting with shooting sticks/trekking poles is definitely my most common position. Hurts my brain to go back father than a few seasons.
There is a great acorn crop this year, at least in central CA. On good acorn years first couple weeks of November can be some insanely good bear hunting in the foothills
I prefer the hornady wound channel, personally. On deer I’ve had some of the 135s make it 4-6” in before expanding, not ideal on a lung shot. The 134s are opening up within a couple inches at most and big wounds through the vitals.
I’ll let ya know. I already ordered a new prefit from unknown in anticipation of burning this one out by next season. In the meantime my 25 creedmoor continues to hammer and will get the nod for Idaho in a couple weeks 👍🏻
It’s a rechambered tikka 22-250. I have not done a good job keeping data on it but seemed to be 1.1-1.2” 10 shot groups and now 1.8”ish. Good setup with maven rs1.2 rokstock and sportsmatch rings with nail polish. Nothing has come loose or moved. I’ll have to shoot again to confirm it wasn’t a...
My tikka 22 creedmoor seems to be opening up. Might have to clean it; unsure of round count but probably around 500 or so and I have not been careful with long strings/hot weather shooting.
On a side note..those 80gr eldx are almost twice the cost per bullet as 88s! Was considering trying them...
I’ve settled on salmon mids for the majority of my hunts. I have not found that steep/nasty/heavy loads have been an issue but I’ve always worn flexible boots. I also can still hunt all morning in moccasins so my feet/ankles are pretty happy with flexibility.
The waterproof thing is an issue...
It’s an atlas nose rail that I had unknown install. Bipod sits closer to the barrel/fulcrum point and mostly it lets me put my sling stud where I want it for more comfortable sling carrying.
Turns out when you’ve got a rokstock, tikka, maven rs 1.2 combo the bullets steer themselves. Oh and full Kuiu plus stone glacier harness and they come running out of the woods to die. Big fanboy here 😂
Not an extensive list but a deer and elk with the 134 eldm. Results have been pretty devastating. Can’t recall the impact velocity but 400 yards on the elk 300 on the deer starting at 2900ish fps. Both were baseball sized wound channels. The deer went through both knuckles and exited, the elk I...
25 GT sounds fun.
My 25 creedmoors have been the best shooting rifles and the easiest to load of anything I’ve loaded for. You could load a 25 creedmoor mild, and have excellent barrel and brass life. Or hot rod it and be on the heels of 6.5prc ballistics, I don’t see a compelling reason to go...
It look a little deep in the case..I don’t know if there is any true performance benefit to having it seated farther out. But it does not look throated to 88s IMO. Looks like standard .100 FB if I had to guess…although my two shot well with the .100 FB and 88s.
I use a slik 532 series for what you’re describing. You can’t expect rock solid when you go ultra light, but absolutely usable for throwing a lighter spotting scope on and field judging. Especially if you are backpacking it makes sense to go lighter. Elk are not that hard to spot..guessing you...
