    Born Primitive Outdoor gear

Some of it is - the grid fleece pieces are way less than similar Sitka, Stone Glacier offerings, but I agree most of it comes in more expensive than I'd like.

    Trad Strings

I got a couple great strings from Mountain Muffler for my recurve and currently have a TTT string because it came with my ASL. Highly recommend either. Steve and Trevor both are very good at what they do and great to talk to. I've built a few myself, and it's not hard at all, but now that I...

    Taper tool for wood shafts

I have the bearpaw premium taper tool and am pretty happy with it so far. Fits my 11/32nds shafts snugly but not too snug. A good sander-based setup is probably the ideal, especially since the sander can serve many purposes, but at $40 the bearpaw option is affordable and doesn't take up much...

    Recurve stories

IMO if you're thinking about having a recurve made at some point, buy a cheap one (Samick Sage, Southwest Spyder, etc) and start shooting now so you don't still suck when your custom bow is in your hands. Here's my one and only good recurve story...

    Snyder effect?

It's funny, just yesterday I was setting up a compound for my kid to shoot and it did feel really nice effortlessly shooting laser beams that hit exactly where I want. Still no interest in buying one for myself though.

    Trad Archer beginning spot

Those risers also interchange with samick sage and any of the numerous companies that have licensed that design. Their customer service is solid too, I had a problem with a riser on my Spyder XL (same riser as the Spyder just slightly longer limbs for a 64" bow, good for long draw guys) and they...

Hunting with A Recurve Making the Switch from Compound

2019 I tagged out in September and sold my compound a month later. Got a recurve for Christmas and haven't looked back. It took me til this spring to fill a tag with it because I'm not that great at the hunting part, but I'm a lifer til I can't physically draw the thing (which hopefully is when...

    Selfbows and bowfishing

I don't think I'd want to risk putting a hole in the back of a selfbow, and most of the time there's not enough real estate to put a hole anywhere else. If you've done it or seen it done I'll yield to your experience, but I know it would make me real nervous.

    Scouting the ND Badlands

To be fair we are in an ND thread (which I should probably quit bumping ;) ) but yeah it can be sometimes, can't it!

    Hill Style/ASL Longbows Anyone?

Totally agree RE the goofy look, although the more I see I think the more I'm warming up to them. I still have yet to shoot one, but wouldn't be surprised if there's one in my future.

    Scouting the ND Badlands

We saw several nice bucks and had a great time but the only stalk that was close to panning out ended when we realized the buck was bedded 100yds onto private. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hiking in wet conditions

I've already had minor problems on dry hikes even without crazy elevation (it never gets all that crazy in west central MN). I just figured it was a break in thing and it would get better. I've been ok putting leuko tape on but for the duration and elevation of the hikes in question I was...

    Hiking in wet conditions

I had some with me but didn't realize how bad it was til it was too late. I have OR Crocs that were hanging on a hook in my garage. I'll bring them next time. The wet stuff was up to my hips in places, though, so even if I'd have had them I think I would eventually get wet feet. I may need to...

    Hiking in wet conditions

I just went for a 30 minute hike on a WPA near me (rolling prairie, nothing crazy terrain wise) wearing a pair of Crispi Thors I have about 25 miles on. I didn’t think about how tall the grass was or how much dew there is in the morning and my nylon pants and socks ended up wicking a ton of...
