I’ve got an HPG heavy recon that started out as my sidearm carry for elk hunting. And now I use it all the time. Biking, hiking you name it. Too handy to have my essentials out of my pants pockets even if I’m not carrying. Calls, map, phone, inReach, compass etc. I need to make a kydex cover for...
I’ve really thought about opening the walk out slider about a foot... I could probably get a Muley and gobbler with one arrow.

Does anybody make mouth calls with a dome? I love the Phelps AMP calls but haven’t found anything quite similar yet, not sure why that is.

I’m gearing up for a few trips for Turkeys this year. Probably NE and home in WY. I’ve gotten pretty darn comfortable with a diaphragm call hunting elk, so the switch to turkeys hasn’t been too hard. If I skip out on a box and slate and just go with a variety of reeds for different volume and...
My every day work bag is an black Xpac bag from Topo. It’s probably 4 years old now. Still kinda crinkly, but nothing like when it was new. Retained a slight shine.
My olive green Xpac wallet is 100% dull now. Zero shine.

I’ve used the cable bow press to do cam swaps and a string change or three. It’s not nearly as nice as the bench mounted press at the club I shoot at. Considering the price and the fact I only use it 2-3 times each year it has been a great investment. It is however awful to use on my buddy’s...
I've bought a couple direct and they've always shipped fast. I'm pretty sure they have fixed pricing with most of their retailers so it's tough to find deals.
All the brands are crap. There are no good ones or bad ones. There are just good and bad individual units. If you live somewhere fairly remote buy the warranty service offered by one of the big box retailers. When you inevitably can't get manufacturer approved service they (warranty service)...
Archery season kicked my ass this year but thankfully I filled my cow tag on day one. It's weird hunting elk without trees around. Not sure I like it.

You’ll find that a pack suited to 5-6 days sucks down to 2-3 days easy but if you go tight to start you’ll have to get real creative on a longer hunt should you choose to do one. You don’t need something huge but I like to be in the 60L range. I’m sporting a MR Selway and it’s been on day trips...
We were on the back side yesterday. From the 230 we could watch trees literally exploding when it got up on the southernmost ridgeline.
This was the view that greeted us when we first pulled out of our camp area quite a few miles away.

I’ve owned one of most of the Mountainsmith varieties. They’ve all been superb. They don’t have explicit provisions for hydration but it works fine. You’ll find you probably need a longer tube.
