Hunting bullet performance - prefer through or a grenade inside?

Like nobody above, I want both. I think it's crucial to declare what we are hunting though. Most of mine is whitetail. Not hard to find a bullet that upsets well and has a high probability of an exit. I will always error on the side of some meat damage to limit a tracking job. The conditions...

    284 win ackley improved

I've never taken down that path before so I can't comment on the process of necking down 6.5-284 to 6mm. If it were me and I had no other supplies yet, I'd probably neck down a 6.5prc to 6. The case capacity is damn near the same and I imagine you could get brass a hell of a lot easier. But I...

    Cold weather boot

I'm not sure of your exact situation but the 800g alpha burly pros treat me well. With heated socks, it's no contest. I've found that 800 is the sweet spot for me. Anything over and I sweat too much and get cold.

If you can stand a little longer throw, the 280ai has you covered with no sweat.

    Winchester SX 3 ?

My Browning Maxus 2 is legit. I believe it's the same design. It can get finnicky if you don't clean it correctly and let it gum up around the gas port/piston. It's taken a lot of Arkansas cold weather absue.

Who's using the Home Depot Husky tables or workbenches for their reloading station?

You can build a hell of a workbench for $250. The items like these look clean for sure but I always end up talking myself into just building it and I can make it whatever I want. I'm a cheap ass.

    Starline 223 / 5.56 Brass

Interesting, I didn't know that. I'm not stepping on them extremely hard but I imagine that I'll get quite a few loadings from them. I have 200ct of the lapua match i shoot in my origin PVA barrel and they seem a bit stouter but even if you can find them, they're much more expensive.

    Do you hunt from home?

Currently looking at a place to move to thats adjacent to 7900 acres of federal forest on top of the 20 that it comes with. It's a large contributing factor in my purchase so my boys can have the experience of growing up like that.

    Starline 223 / 5.56 Brass

I should mention that the brass i spoke about was the 223. I imagine there is a difference in capacity between the 5.56 and 223.

    Starline 223 / 5.56 Brass

It's good enough for me. Shooting it out of a tikka and getting consistent results. Hard to beat for the price IMO. I bought 1k of them to load up for next years S2H class.

    Kuiu Attack Pants

Attacks are great. I have 3 pairs now. They're a bit long but I have a shortish inseam for being 6'2". For me, they're great winter pants but they're too thick and don't breathe well enough for anything warmer than about 55 IMO. Super comfy to wear around the house and I'll definitely get more...

    Mono pass through?

There's a 130 Berger Classic Hunter that would keep the same weight as your barnes. Not promising it'll leave an exit but I promise it will kill quicker. The 168s in 308 are legit. If you want the best bullet for quick kills and potential to exit, get a 130 or 140 nosler partition. If you...

    .300 wsm barrel chop

That 180 load seems slow. Regardless, chop it. You'll never go back. Go shorter than you think you should.

    Mono pass through?

Absolutely not an anomaly in regards to expansion. You're doing good to get 1.5x diameter. Do yourself a favor and try another bullet just for testing sake. A cup and core.

    Ultralight/Compact .30 cal Hunting Suppressor

That's good advice but it's tough because it's not always a "get what you pay for" kind of deal. One of my most used cans YHM R9 is super cheap. The DD stuff is cheaper than the other high end stuff too. Crucial to do your research.

    Experience with Boyds Quest stock?

No experience with that specific model but I "built" a cheap beater savage axis I had laying around and got one of their stocks for it. I was a little upset about the factory inletting on the stock. It took quite a bit of work making sure my stock fit my action. I ended up spending quite a while...

Colorado 1st rifle hunting info needed?

If you're just booking a first rifle hunt, it sounds like you got lucky or the guide doesn't have much business. I booked a 2nd rifle hunt for 2025 back in July. I had originally booked for 2026 but I got a call back saying that a group backed out. Look up historical weather data on your...

    Ultralight/Compact .30 cal Hunting Suppressor

There's a poi shift with all suppressors. What counts if it's consistent and predictable. Let's be honest though, once you get a couple cans, you're not shooting without them so I've not found it to be a problem. All three of the cans I mentioned (AB, SiCo, DD) are very predictable and...
