You could definitely be right about them turning into kind of a fad and the necessity being inflated a bit. One potential advantage I see is having one on a magnum for recoil reduction. Still waiting to see good evidence on their effectiveness versus just adding a pound to your rifle or a muzzle...
So true about getting familiar with the shapes and colors of a specific animal. One of my roommates grew up in elk country, and I was always amazed how fast he could pick one out through his binos
Wow, thank you so much for sharing this info! It's like a bear hunting tutorial for Oregon and Washington. Do you make a plan by scouting out what the food is doing before the season, or just observe what the bears are eating during the season?
When I look back on places I've hunted or fished, it seems like I've spent too much time doing the same thing in the same places that weren't productive. I guess if I'm not having any luck, then I wouldn't be missing out by trying something totally different 🤷♂️
It sounds like one of the greatest debates here is what power bino is best. A couple years ago Leupold came out with some variable binoculars, maybe 8-12x. Wish they would have caught on. Does anyone have experience with zoom binoculars?
great advice about the wind! Sounds like we should be thinking about whether our wind can travel up an entire valley rather than just thinking about it when we make a stalk
Do you find more bears by glassing, walking to a new area and glassing some more? Or do you like sitting down and glassing one area until they come out?
