    Vortex Binos

That answer varies by user though and Zeiss, Leica, Meopta and even a handful of others all have their supporters, very often with the equation being based not only on the brand, but changing with various magnifications and model lines. If someone wants to buy an expensive binocular, or a...

Brooks Range Dall Sheep/ Grizzly Combo Rifle Selection

The .338 used to have a very good following in Alaska and I'd be surprised it that's not still the case. Point taken though, you definitely care about how well the people around you can handle their arms.

    Planning Family Alaska Trip

Good thing about looking at the mountain itself is that I've seen it both from north of Fairbanks and driving in Anchorage itself. Very visible from a lot of places in the state, and if you're still looking for more drives, the Denali Highway, not to mention the intersecting Richardson gets you...

    Tankless water heaters

My longest term experience was having an apartment in Japan for two and a half years and the hot water was always quick, endless and reliable. I believe the people needing a great deal of maintenance have lots of minerals in their water, which is not experienced by others.

NPS threatening to close 20 million acres in Alaska to some types of hunting

We got so many moose in Alaska you can't even avoid them if you wanted to! I've gotten a handful of face to face pictures of them and been chased more times than I would have liked.

    ? for Roofers...

Put a metal roof on a log cabin we built last year and they're pretty popular with a lot of people in Alaska. Hidden fastener type lock together and no holes showing.

NPS threatening to close 20 million acres in Alaska to some types of hunting

People making decisions from DC over the will of Alaska itself is akin to a foreign takeover. Heck, there's even another country in between the two. The Constitution was made to hobble government takeover of power over the people of the country, but it's been completely ignored of late.

    Re-Decking a Raft Trailer

Whatever you end up using for the new deck, soak it with as much treatment as it'll take. It'll last a lot longer for it and my personal preference would be 5/8 to 3/4, avoiding 1/2.

What can I seal knife paracord wrapped handle with?

Everything in this post is spot on. Varying thicknesses of string according to grip feel is the way to go, and like you said, wipe off the excess and you'll have an excellent grip that doesn't go anywhere and feels the way you want it to. Once again, there are better types of line to make a...

    Moving to Alaska

Trailers always sell well in Alaska and that's how most of them arrive. Roads in Alaska aren't bad as long as you stay off of Goldstream and Farmers Loop!

    Moving to Alaska

The ferry is a wonderful experience in itself and you've got the option of starting either from Bellingham, or starting up into Canada and boarding at Prince Rupert for a good view of southeast. I never get tired of that trip and Eldred Rock Lighthouse between Juneau and Haines is everyone's...

    Moving to Alaska

I've had to go through that grief, and the rest of their 'we know you're a criminal' interrogation mentality. You're right though, look ahead and just tell them the names of some properly spaced motels along the way just to get them off that subject.

Not only is it still the worst, it used to be even worse than that over towards Koidern, but all straightened out now.

    Moving to Alaska

My favorite compressor is the DeWalt 20v that runs on the same batteries as their hand tools and it's great not having to worry about snaking the power cord from the lighter socket to each tire. Not very expensive, especially if you've got any DeWalt tools, and the other thing to have is an...

    Moving to Alaska

I still prefer the Cassiar, and if the Alcan is now in better shape then it's better than it was four yeas ago. Still, somehow I just love driving the Yellowhead and Cassiar highways. Do wish they'd put in a card reader at Destruction Bay though so that I could still buy gas at night.

    Moving to Alaska

Some of them are an absolute nightmare to deal with, then there's the ones who you wish were at every crossing. It's really a toss of the dice when it comes to both Canadian and U.S. customs with good and bad sprinkled all throughout.

    Moving to Alaska

That's a reliable way to go, but pretty damn expensive. Regular vehicle with driver is about 2k from Bellingham to Haines, then there's the additional cross-gulf trip to pay for still. You're right though; if someone goes from Washington to south central, they can bring anything they want...

    Moving to Alaska

You didn't ask, but having driven both the Alcan and Cassiar numerous times, I'd take a left at Prince George and go up the Cassiar. It's my favorite route unless I'm catching the ferry at Prince Rupert, another favorite of mine, especially because it takes you through all of southeast and...

    Vortex Binos

This is what I discovered earlier this year and it really helps to initially do comparisons with some strong colors and high contrast areas to make differences stand out. Once you see it, it's hard not to notice any more.
