    Utah- what the hell?

These are the points I would make. “Barren” lands exist because it is not someplace anyone could or wanted to live due to lack of water and arable land. There’s plenty of places that were barely feasible in terms of places to live that dried up. I can’t help but wonder about the perspective of...

    Bowmar's beast broadhead

For what it’s worth, I’ve been attending a lot of broadhead tuning events at our local club for a couple of years. I’ve seen tons of both mechanicals and fixed blade heads from low end to high end price points from every manufacturer. There’s a lot more guys shooting that have terrible form...

    MI UP road trip

My wife is from the UP, and I don’t have too much to add that hasn’t already been mentioned, but I’m glad to see that I have visited most of the recommendations others have already posted. I’ve only ever lived in the mountain west, and I’ve always enjoyed visiting the UP. We got some harsh...

    Idaho Poaching Case

The Idaho Fish and Game are probably just as frustrated in this situation because to prevent future abuses from happening, they either need to scrap/revise the current program or hope that any penalties handed down to the offender are significant enough that it is a huge deterrent for anyone...

    Late Onset Solo DIY

I think that as you age, it’s easy to become less risk averse, but you can also unnecessarily limit your life experiences if you don’t continually challenge yourself. You don’t have to put yourself in dangerous situations to test yourself, but you can set reasonable challenges for yourself that...

    Sight that holds zero

To the OP, as others have mentioned, it’s almost certainly a grip and form issue that’s creating your issue. You could tape a matchstick to your riser to use as a sight and shoot good groups if you can grip the bow and execute your shot process the same way every single time.

    Hotel Recommendation in Alamosa, CO

Not sure which way you’re headed from Alamosa, but if you go through Monte Vista (about 20 minutes West) eat at the Sunflower Cafe. A Mennonite woman owns and operates the business, and the food is very good and does not come off a Sysco truck. I’m not sure how to describe how much better even...

Good book suggestion for winter read list

That sounds like a fun time. Hope you guys don’t get hassled for carrying your muskets through town.

    Micros in wind

How much was the wind affecting your shot process? In my opinion, your arrow will be less affected by wind as the wind is affecting you trying to fight to hold on target while aiming and executing your shot. If you’re trying to time your shot so that your shot breaks in between gusts or have to...

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

You guys have all seen this, right?

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

I’m a little surprised to see that none of the stories in this discussion have originated from a gun show. I know you’re not supposed judge a book by its cover, but the wide array of characters I’ve seen at gun shows make me think that there must be some entertaining conversations occurring there.

    CO first rifle advice

You’re not idiots, but hunting the timber without taking into account the topography is a mistake. You probably know that, but thought I’d mention it in the event that it didn’t occur to you to have an objective while working through the timber and hitting likely features like benches and...

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

Ha! Yeah, like that but a pie plate size group at 40 by some of these guys would at least make me think they were somewhat competent.

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

Agreed. Saw a guy’s groups the other day who had been hunting archery for years and has a highly coveted tag for this year. I was floored by what his 5 shots at the 50 yard elk looked like… neck, spine, couple in the guts, and one in the back leg.

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

The archery range can be just as entertaining as the rifle range… especially as we get close to bow season. Anyone remember that “wildernessmaster” guy on here? The dude claimed to be special forces and the shit he would post was unreal.

    Ultraview 1K Arrows

My experience is the same. I can’t remember the last time an arrow shaft broke because I hit the rebar in a 3D target, or shot the wrong pin and put one into something other than the target, but I have bent a lot of half outs. Even then though, I heat up the half out and pull it, and the...

    WY BLM camping snakes

That’s my approach as well for snakes and other critters. My bird dogs went on point one day in some thicker cover and when I went in for the flush I was a few feet from a skunk who was turned and ready, but didn’t spray. I figure, if the skunk gave me a pass, I’d give it one too.

    Summer Olympics?

Same for me. The athletes have been busting their asses to get to the games, and anyone who can’t appreciate the level of effort and commitment that it takes to arrive at this level is oblivious. If someone has no interest in the Olympics, so be it - but the athletes have no influence over...
