A sheep gun = mountain rifle = packable and lightweight
I prefer 300 wsm as its built on a short action (weight savings) and performs well with a short barrel (packability, ever try going through alders with a rifle on you backpack and a long barrel??). Also this caliber works well in bear...
I agree with other comments here with boots being a significant gap In your equipment. I prefer stiff mountaineering boot as my primary hunting boot. I like the extra support for carrying weight and the stability in technical areas. As I have narrow heels, I’ve found Zamberlan 2092 or the...
My vote is the Swarovski Z8i. Outstanding glass and extremely happen with the one I put on my last build. As much as I’ve tried to like NF, I just find their glass disappointing and too heavy of a package. I’ve yet to have durability or reliability issues with Swarovski scopes.
I have the highest end hi index lenses possible in both my daily eye glasses as well as in my ray bans. I have a small fortune invested in my eye glasses. Nothing simplier than changing glasses as conditions warrant.
I’m not a true long range shooter like some of the experts on here, but I can say by becoming proficient shooting at 800-1000 yards in terms of shooting mechanics and knowing my ballistics has greatly improved my overall confidence at lesser ranges. This has incrementally increased my comfort...
Congrats!
I didnt have any safety concerns hunting in Mexico. If you don’t go looking for trouble, then you typically will not find trouble. You will be escorted while you’re there and the locals will steer clear of any potential concerns. I personally wouldn’t give it a second thought
I...
Wow that is unreal. Totally understand your apprehension with them. It has to be a lemon. I have 2 seasons and lots and lots miles on my 2092s and don’t have wear close to that.
No issues whatsoever with my Z6 or Z8 scopes in terms of mechanical performance. I've never had issues with zero or tracking when I’m dialing for range. I‘ve traveled extensively with mine and even the airlines haven’t knocked the zero off. I think they are a great option for a mid weight...
Oh it would have to be my first “custom” build that Christensen Arms (Carbon Custom) built for me back in the day in 2009 when I didn‘t know what I was doing. For the $4500 I spent back then, I supposedly got a match grade carbon wrapped Shilen barrel, on a Weatherby ULW action (my request at...
I agree, the expeds are warm. But it’s nice not to lose a slipper or have a rock poke through when you take a piss or if you need to walk to nearby water source. If I have to put my boots on to do this, it defeats their purpose.
Best camp shoe I have found were made by Cushe, but they are...
No, you don’t have to send scope to them. if getting a BDC turret, you just send them your ballistic data along with the scope model and they create the ring and ship to you. They also have stock mil/MOA rings available depending on scope model.
I just have them etch every “click” and...
You can have Outdoorsman in AZ make you custom ring that replaces the colored rings that comes standard with the BT scopes. You can calibrate the ring to your rifle ballistics, MOA, or whatever your preferred method is for distance correction. I think Swarovski can do it for you as well if my...
I bought a pair of these as backpack camp shoes given their lightweight and insulation. Don’t think I would recommend.
Utterly useless if not on flat ground in dirt. Any resemblance of a slope, or on rocks, they will roll right off your feet. They are warm and comfortable around a tent and...
