    Sevr BH and Elk

I had a 1.5 bounce off a hay bale in practice mode. 72lb draw weight at 30 yards. That wasn’t great for my confidence.

    QuietKat: Aftermarket Racks?

Anybody purchase an after marker rack for their QuietKat? I'm looking for an aftermarket rear rack that may also serve as a fender - but still have load carrying capability (meat quarter, etc.). If so, any recommendations?

    Broadhead Success stories

@yoopshoot - that picture and Euro is awesome. What a great memory. Imagine leaving that in the woods and someone finding it 200 years from now. Not sure what our society will look like, but I’d hope you’d be the Indian that people pondered being back in 2022.

    Elk hind quarter

Can’t imagine anybody that enjoys good food with amazing texture properties would sneer at sous vide. It’s the best and we can’t keep people out of the house when I’m cooking. Heck… I took it to base camp this year and it was the envy of everyone. Meals are cooked to perfection with sous vide.

What to upgrade first: boots or backpack?

Boots. Boots will get you to the elk. Packs are important but I could pack an elk quarter out in a baby carrier - with good boots, of course.

    Dual Grind vs Single Grind

I freeze meat trimmings (future burger) during initial processing in bag of the same size. 7lbs for me. Then I pre measure suet for each bag. I feed trimmings and burger into dual grind. Dual grind goes into a bowl and dumped into a small hand mixer. I can do 15-21lbs (3 bags) in mixer. 30 sec...

Best online course to learn Elk hunting?

I understand where you’re coming from. However, there are a number of professionals within the industry that have dedicated hundreds and hundreds of hours to not only perfecting their craft with “boots on the ground“ but also articulating their learnings in a format that can be studied by people...

    Grandpa's Elk

In my house, only the best stories get the shoulder mounts or euros. I have a garage full of bigger horns, but they don’t mean anything because they’re missing a story. I would hang your grandpa‘s antlers with pride, just as you did. He would be proud.

    Dual Grind vs Single Grind

My process.. LEM dual grind. Big Bite #8. Did 165lbs of elk from start to finish in under 3 hours. I do a 10% beef suet mix. I freeze whole muscle and trimmings in 7-8lb bags. Wait till the end of hunting season to thaw bags and grind all the critters. Pre measure suet for 10% yield. Add suet...

Latest version of my perfect poncho/tarp shelter

Perry, from WI makes good stuff. I’ve heard his lead time have gotten quite long but the quality appears to be excellent. @mcseal2 … if you have ran the Gatewood Cape, do you prefer the WI poncho shelter? What do you think about the hammock configuration if you’ve tried it?

How do you know when jerky is done?

I bend it and if it cracks or starts to tear and is white, it’s done. Also helps to cut the jerky onto 1/4” strips.

    LEM Dual Grind

I have the LEM dual grind #8. Did 165lbs of elk burger yesterday in under 3 hours from start to finish. #12 would be faster but it works fine and I like going slower to double check the cleanliness of the meat before feeding. I freeze in 7lb bags and then pre weight all suet per bag and go...

    QuierKat 65% off

Has anybody dealt with returns or exchanges yet? Their initial customer service with shipping and delivery has been excellent along with helpful emails on set up, etc. Just needing to work on an exchange from 500 to 750 and wondering how it’s going to be handled?
