Adding a thread adaptor doesn't add metal onto the barrel at it's weakest point (the undercut). It just adds more weight, which I believe also increases shear.
For your 280AI, the faster burning powders like H4350, RL16 and N555 should have a complete burn in a 20" barrel. I haven't played with Staball 6.5 but that's a similar burn rate. RL17 might be worth a try if you don't mind some temp sensitivity.
H4831SC is known for small groups but not top...
I wonder if I could even shoot my .45-70 enough to wear out the barrel. Big bore, low pressure, doesn't use a ton of powder. My shoulder might go first.
It's a decent article, and I agree with his original assertion that stopping power is largely a myth. There are any number of ways the data they used could be skewed. Seriously, how many self defense shootings actually involve a .44 Magnum? I would assume the number is quite small, and it...
If you know the case capacity of your fired cases in gr H20, you can plug that info into Pmax Ballistics and get a reasonable approximation for pressure. You'll need to subtract the volume of the seated bullet from the case capacity (Pmax calls it "powder space") but it's fairly simple. Multiply...
Saw the following in the owner's manual of a recent acquisition, a 5" CQB chambered in 9mm. Enjoy!
"In the first issue of Harris Publication's BALLISTIC magazine they did a survey of 19 well known firearms experts, myself included, asking about our preferred self-defense caliber. The results...
124 or 147 grain HST is what I have loaded up.
Going to play around with a Barnes TAC-XP 115 grain loaded with N320 to 1050-1075 fps for use with a can. That bullet has been tested quite a bit in gel and seems to perform quite well. It's one of the few off-the-shelf hollow point options that...
I wouldn't worry about hunting with a 405 gr hardcast bullet in .45-70. If you want to try a mono, the 300 gr Barnes (#30630) groups very well in my 1895. I also get tiny groups with the Hornady 325 gr FTX but be aware you have to trim those cases to 2.04" to have a c.o.a.l. of 2.59". Also...
Approval times for trusts seem to be getting shorter as well. I've had 2 approvals in the last few weeks that were approved in 160-164 days. Had another one on a trust approved about 10 months ago which took 267 days.
And I never tried contacting anyone prior to any approvals.
I agree with the above. The case is too long for a short action, but it's perfect for mid/long actions. It's a great old cartridge as-is, but only if you handload. I think the big reason the Swede isn't more popular in the U.S. is because factory ammo is so watered down for those old small ring...
I might not even buy a .309 bushing unless you plan to buy different brass in the future. If you start with -.003 the brass will spring back to @ -.002.
