I’m an adult hunter who is learning Woodsmanship and marksmanship. I hunt a popular OTC in my state, use older outdated gear and enjoy hunting my units. There’s tons to learn & lots of easily achievable milestones and goals. i think think id like to have better gear, and access to better...

Trials bike vs dirt bike/TW for hunting.

I got a heavily modded wr250 it’s a nice dual sport that will do easy to slightly harder trails. It’s not a dirt bike by any means. But you could modify it for hunting and get pretty far back. I run street legal tires on it but the harder DOT compound doesn’t hook up like proper tires( Dunlop...

    Relocation and property/building advice

If it doesn’t have a well drilled I’d get a water Witcher/driller out there and have them check it get your gutters hooked up to a 5000 gallon tank bigger if you can afford it. Defensible space or water your landscaping. you build a shop you can get a lot of water off the roof. It’s dry...

    Does, does and more does.

they are nocturnal at lower elevations rn. you might get Lucky and see one moving around. But for the most part 10-15 mins before full darkness is your window. What I’ve seen is smaller bucks recently with 1-2 does in tow, and studs seem to be solitary and smart. Even tame backyard bucks...

Legitimate benefits to lifting a vehicle?

Small lift of 3-4 inches seems like a good move on a TRD equivalent taco/4Runner. 285/70/17 should fit without rubbing and you should be able to get most places with that setup and still be street legal. But if you don’t wheel then there’s no reason. Keep it stock

    Lever gun scope

Just put a Primary arms slx 23mm red dot with acss reticle on an old win 30/30. Used a Pearson tac rail as it is a top eject. 70 rounds & Like it so far. It’s accurate enough at 100 yards for hunting. Quick target acquisition, and light enough. Looks wise it’s not too “aesthetic” but it’s...

Puffy Pant vs Ski (Insulated) Pant

As stated above they are way louder , making a scraping noise. You could fix this easily I suppose. Good materials ( goretex, rab) offer a lot of waterproof/breathability. They rate them https://www.ridestore.com/mag/waterproof-ratings-and-breathability-explained/ ^Like this if your...

Did any of you guys go directly into big game hunting as opposed to small game hunting first?

Hunted deer as a teenage kid, because it was the most inexpensive way to hunt. And you could easily eat with your friends. Also shot hundreds of “bunnies” but would rarely eat them as we viewed them as vermin. So yeah I guess I was a small game hunter 1st.. Just dawned on me. Years later I...

Ticks - Blacktail in CA and PNW

Central gold country foohills here at 3k elevation. I see ticks on all the deer that I’ve killed in rifle ( sept 20- Nov 1 ) but I rarely get ticks on myself that time of year. Usually just a couple on the underside. Early winter rains ( Nov-Jan) they really come out. Mostly on my dog but...

How Have the California Bears Reacted?

Agree I thought cat initially mostly due to the shape and hair. It “looks” like it. - it was on a prominent place. Not buried. -Would a cougar eat hooves and bones? -all the cougar kills I’ve found were selectively eaten and hidden. All these kills were adult sized animals though. The...
