When is a buck acceptable to shoot to preserve the deer herd? Should everybody be a trophy hunter? (Montana Rut thread carryover)

Just to play devil's advocate. All of these deer on this thread were likely passed on at one point or another if not several times over. Meaning at some point someone likely let those deer walk and we all have ended up with better deer because of it. I agree that FWP needs to make chages...

It is silly and it is also phyisics. It is the thing the dudes in white coats use to design your bullets that you choose to take a very simplic view of. It is the mass that creates the wound channels. It is the velocity that causes that mass to expand. The bullet needs both. No matter what...

Ok. There are two variables in ft/lb one is velocity the other is mass. I assumed your bullet has mass. My bad. Have a good weekend

So the bullet still works at 1 ft/lb?

I can appreciate that. I had a couple questions that also went unanswered. At then end of the day I'm not trying to sway the mind of someone that is experienced, but I do believe there are a lot of very inexperienced people that will blindly follow an interent forum's hot topic. I'm not...

I've been hunting elk successfully for 20 years. Pretty succesfuly. I got my first trad elk this fall, which I was pretty jacked about. A lot of the bullet of choice recommended on here is not recommended for anything over varmints, 333 ft/lb is the same energy at the muzzle of a 22 WMN, with...

I really dosen't make any more difference to me than it probably does you, but to the guy that dosen't know any better, traveling 100s of miles and that may be one crack at an elk, that individual may not want to push the envelope with minimums. But we are all adults and make our own decisions...

I bow hunt with field points. If I do my part elk drop like a sack of hammers when you hit them where the spinal column enters the skull.

The words you guys are fighting over is temporarily absent, which would probably be at the discretion of the court.

    Wyoming nonresident proposal

I can tell you that G&F takes the residency law very seriously. They make examples of folks they catch. The data is all out there and it is readily shared to law enforcement.

    Wyoming nonresident proposal

That is not an accurate statement. There was an overwhelming response fron residents to stop the outfitter set aside tags. That directly benefits the NR DIY hunter. You can say whatever you want. But the vast majority of resident comments I read called for a pretty even handed approach. The...

    Looking for your honey holes

I'm from the part of Wyoming most of the residents despise, other than Jackson. Just wanting to keep an eye some of the Task Force and conservation discussions. Also a trad hunter and pretty familiar with the measuring and marking of land boundaries. Have a great weekend.
