What is your bow setup? I'm shooting a Halon w/ 6" brace, 60-ish lbs, 27.5 draw. For reference IBO on this bow is around 345fps- I havent shot thru a chrono but using calculator online I'm shooting around 230fps. Estimate with old arrow was 290fps
Not sure, never ran thru the chrono. What I do know is with my former 400 spine light arrows that were around 350 grains- the 40 yard mark on my sight tape is now 65 yards with the 530 grain arrows....
I bare shaft paper tuned last year and was grouping my single bevels with my field tips out to 40- like I say didnt shoot beyond that. I guess I'll see what I can get for additonal range out of my existing slider sight- I'm also only shooting around 60lbs, 27.5" draw so if needed I could crank...
I hunt mainly whitetails currently and switched to a heavier arrow last year- total arrow weight is about 530 grains. I'm going to be hunting Antelope this year however and I'm afraid of the potential issues I will run into with trajectory. I'll have a rangefinder but in talking to guys who have...
This is the post Im referencing that is pinned on here . For what its worth I've read a lot more stories of guys walking miles, driving hundreds and dealing with mainly frustration versus walking out and killing one in a half hour. Something to keep in mind is people are likely more apt to come...
So this is the opposite experience from the 'Thunderdome' post that is pinned. Could be a circus, could be great. The reality is likely somewhere inbetween.
You'll never know if you don't go. Take every experience you read about online with a grain of salt. Set realistic expectations and control what you can control
I was there last year second week of May- was going to stay a week but it poured rain two days so I left. Was solo so I was going insane just sitting in my truck and the roads are about impassable when wet. I was able kill one my first day at 1pm during a bit of a dry spell. Fun times, saw more...
Im heading out there in a couple weeks to hunt whitetails- be around the Dickinson area more or less. Plan on wearing in my tree saddle and carrying sticks but try and be prepared for spot/stalk. Really dont know how the whitetail population is in the Badlands but should be fun wandering around...
So after using Basemaps my honest feedback is mixed. Map quality is indeed much better then OnX, but with that its slower to load both on the app and the desktop. The quality of the map however that has the Topo lines is not good at all and when you do a side by side with OnX it only shows a...
Appreciate the reply. I got the grid lines to go away on the app at least
Is there something in the works as well to be able to adjust the transparency of the layers in the app? When you turn on the public land layer it shades it in a dark green which really screws with you especially if you...
that seemed to have worked in the app, i turned off any layers then turned them all back on the grid lines went away for whatever reason. Same cant be said for the desktop version, i turned off all layers and the lines are still there
I just downloaded BaseMaps after having OnX for years. One thing driving me nuts already is how do I get rid of all these grid lines that show up no matter what in 40 acre blocks?? These arent the property lines and they show up even if you have public and private land owner info OFF.
That does tend to be the wild card in most units- it may have accessible public but then the question is does it hold any decent quantity of antelope? I know guys say' there are antelope everywhere!' in WY- that may be true outside of October but in season is going to be a different story.
I wouldnt call the public chunks 'small' per se, the one chunk is the Bud Love Area at around 6700 acres but it only has one access on the East side but if you like to hike you could put on about 20 miles in there. The state piece to the north of that is 10k acres but only has one access on the...
I looked at 102 but there is so little public that isnt the Bighorn Mountains that it sure doesnt look like you would have much area to roam. The only spots are in the SE and NE part of the unit that have public roads touching them. All would require a long walk Im guessing before you got into...
I posted in another thread but I killed one my first full day in SD then went over to WY to try for one- only got one full day in before being rained out but I chased gobbling birds all over the place on both sides of the border. Was tough to get one to play ball but they sure like to randomly...
I found a good way to get away from hunters is to pick spots so steep no one as dumb as me would try it!
also everything I read said they are really easy to gobble on the roost- well I never did hear one in 4 days- not one gobble could hear them fly up though
