Speaking of....anyone know what a stripped A1 carry handle upper weighs? Theres slick side ones and I'm wondering if using one for the carry handle mount for a micro prism will be a net lighter upper than a flat top with mount...
It was mentioned a lot earlier, but if you're really wanting to shave every gram, I know JP Enterprises used to machine an acog mount pattern into the picatinny rail. You could probably find someone to still do this and shave an oz or two off of the weight of a micro-prism/mini acog. I know the...
If you want to change your barrel for length or weight reasons, go for it, if it's just wondering about bullet stability, 1 in 9 is fine, worst case is your actual use BC might be slightly lower than stated values, non issue inside 400.
I have 3 AR's so I wasn't going to buy a factory rifle, and for the cost of that, you can build lighter for less. Building AR's is very easy, and it's fun. The pictured handguard I built costs $70 to do, and is an ounce lighter than faxons comparable length handguard.
I copied this design that's used for ultralight bike seatpost clamps. I used the cutoff section of handguard tube for the inner mold and i have a 3d printer and printed spacers to create the teardrop shapes and the 'H' profile center relief.
Here's the remaining cutoff from the layup with the...
Handguard barrel nut and shim came in at 6.05 oz with the homemade carbon fiber clamp I made. I already had everything on hand to make it, but I doubt it saves more than a few grams just getting this and I definitely dont recommend making it, I just wanted to try. I also ended up using .010"...
Good to know, I was thinking of going low tech, lightweight and just sectioning off another part of the leftover tube and building up two flanges with some epoxy and CF to run a bolt through to a nut on the other side, but I'll experiment first and post when I have results. The Clark custom is...
Not a fan of how often the camera was switching on the newest episode. Seems like it was something automated to just go to who was speaking, and it was too much, I had to switch to just listening to this one.
There's a database of a lot of ar-15 parts with weights so you can get a close estimate of any parts combo you want, it's located here but you gotta have a gmail account so you can view the spreadsheet.
What do you mean? I wasn't planning on putting anything over the end of the tube, just use it as is for a basic handguard, in the same style as the kaw valley and wiland pcc handguards, just with a big enough diameter to accommodate the gas tube to keep mine a semi auto.
Posting my findings, and I'll update it as I go.
I found a possible budget ul handguard option for anyone wanting to do a gas gun like mine will still be. I have no idea what original handguard this was to, but I ordered one and it's OD is pretty close to 45mm. I ordered this cf tube in 46mm ID...
Basically this. But get a garden kneeling mat for a 3/4" and use vetwrap, no sticky residue and you can pull it really tight so the foam doesn't slip, there's even camo vetwrap if that's your style. I've done this to a savage 99 that I didn't want to damage the original stock and get a good...
I don't have as much camera/optics/shooting ball head experience as others, so take this with a lethal sized pinch of salt. But with other systems that use articulating ball clamps for positioning, a larger diameter ball will give more stability over a smaller diameter clamp with a higher build...
I would look to get something that would be more multipurpose when a kid is that young. I would just look at building a upper or rifle in 6 arc if you dont already have an ar. Still can be very lightweight and nothing on it will be something that someone outgrows, and build the rifle she wants...
Rugers tennon is shorter from everything I've gathered. You'd need a smith to cut the tennon longer, and possibly redo the chamber, so it would end up costing you as much to chamber a new barrel onto it. Depending on what your smith would charge, getting a new stock for the ruger might be a wash...
