ADG will be making brass for it this year. not dead, not going anywhere, at least 5 MFGR's are now making rifle in 6.8 (Browning, Winchester, Christensen, Fierce, Seekins) and here's a link for the brass...
my 270 win will not "outperform" my 6.8W, no matter how badly i want it to. it can't shoot 170 or 175 grain bullets without a re-barrel and since its a hunting rifle i see no reason to do that; a thousand (a couple thousand?) or more rounds left before it goes bad. Would i take it elk hunting...
selling my Retumbo and H1000, locally only, will not ship. Tucson, AZ and surrounding we can discuss a local meet-up but Tucson Southeast Gun Range on a Saturday/Sunday morning work great. Five (5) one pound (1lb) bottles of each. The H1000 is all same lot #, the Retubmo has different lot...
Here's the response I got from Peterson several months ago:
"That is a caliber that has been discussed in our development meetings, but nothing has been decided so far."
I was mistaken - went back and checked my emails to the manufacturers. Here's what my email said:
Hi Todd,
We've not heard of any official plans for the 6.8 Western yet, but it's been a fairly popular request. I will add yours to our list we keep for Lapua when they want input on potential...
I emailed Peterson, Lapua, ADG, and Starline. Your sources are incorrect. Peterson said it's not in the cards for at least 2 more years and they'd need to see a large increase in demand. Lapua and ADG said no way never. Starline said they would consider it if they could meet current demand with...
"...Copper impact which I picked up 2 boxes for break-in and brass"... all it's good for. Berger 170 EOL supposed to come out in next week or so. Hammer has plenty 162s but damn they're spendy.
shotshow2023 - Browning introduced Hells Canyon 270 WIN with 1:8 barrels. So it's not 1, it's now 3 - 27 Nosler, 6.8W, and 270Win. Doesn't mean more MFGR's will start making heavy high BC bullets in .277, but there're already at least 5 that do (Nosler, Sierra, Berger, Hammer, and 1 company that...
i use the recoil hawg - it reduces recoil almost as well as my Area 419 Hellfire Match. I like it. It's light, it matches the gun, and does the job. I wouldn't spend another $240 looking for 1 or 2 lb less recoil energy because you won't (likely) notice it.
i've written emails to Starline, Petersen, Lapua, and ADG; all 3 have indicated the same thing regarding 6.8W brass. Lapua said "probably never" - Starline and ADG both said "we'll see how the market reacts, we're having a hard time keeping up with demand for the calibers we do make" - Peterson...
update. 63.2 - 65.5 grains, 0.3 grain intervals after 63.7, compressed loads start at 64.0 grains, crunch started at 64.3 grains, and had to dial in the bullet seating die on 65.2 so stopped there after only 2 rounds so not much data for that load. Tucson temp: 58F start, 73F end. wind: 20mp...
Here's my data from ladder test, 60.0 grains to 63.3 grains Retumbo, CCI 250 MLRP's. Once fired winchester brass full length sized. My rifle: Browning 6.8 Western Long Range (26" barrel) with Recoil Hawg brake. My scope: Vortex LHT 3-15x50 SFP MOA (discontinued). Temperatures in Tucson Saturday...
Hello all, first time poster, thanks for this thread it's been very helpful for me and I sincerely appreciate the information you're sharing. I'm working up Retumbo with 165gr ABLR in once-fired Win Brass. Basically using Hornady's load data, The 10-step, 5-shot ladder starts at 60.0 and works...
