I would definitely take some. On my high country hunts we got dumped on both times and the kuiu rain gear came in handy big time.

FNG from Texas

Lighter 30-06 for the mountains?

I would take a look at the weatherby vanguard talon. Has a 24” spiral fluted barrel that is threaded and comes with muzzle break, and a peak 44 carbon fiber stock. Fully loaded with a Vx5hd on top, it weighs less than 8 lbs. Got one recently and really like it.

Will you kill an elk anywhere?

I would personally shoot any size bull anywhere since I have never taken one. Now an Aoudad or something I have taken plenty of, I would consider the location before pulling the trigger.
