Does anyone know if an anvil style ball head can clamp to the short recessed pic rail? I'm considering one of these but don't want to give up the ability of using my tripod as a front rest. Thanks

Last year I filled a couple of these for calorie boosts, one with nutella for morning oatmeal and one with coconut oil for hot meals. The nutella one was a pain to deal with in cold temps but still worth it. Might try fruit jelly or something else this year...
I can't help with your exact comparison question but can comment that I wear my mountain extremes on flatish ground regularly, anytime I'm carrying a midweight+ pack (often my 3yo and gear) for ankle protection and have no issue with them. They did take a while to break in though. I got them...
