Cablela's Alaskan Guide 6-person dome tent, new but dusty

This is not a solo backpacking tent but an outfitter tent. Cabela's Alaskan Guide 6-person tent This has the rainfly one version back, so the picture is not completely accurate. It is a 6'3" high dome and has excellent reviews (460 reviews, 4.8/5.0) The nylon case is dusty but the tent is...

    MSR snowshoe detachable tails

I think you made the correct choice if you're off-trail. The extra float is nice, and the Lightning Ascents have much better side-hill capabilities than the MSR Evos. Additionally, while you're "190-ish without a pack", once you add in your camping gear and then possibly sheds on top of that...

    Kuiu Yukon gear leaking?

The Derzimax NX in both Chugash and Yukon are monolithic membranes and aren't supposed to wet-out under pressure like GT/eVent/etc. Hope you just got a bad set ...

    Toray vs. Goretex rain gear

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with any of the above or make clothing, I'm just fascinated by technical outdoors gear and do way too much pointless research. =) Patagonia does use Toray - look for the "FullRange" insulation such as in their new Nano Air. Arc'teryx uses Toray for their coated...

    3 Layer Event

I have a 3-layer eVent shell and, like you noticed, it breathes almost too well. It's great. I can throw a stupid-light packable wind-jacket on under it if needed. I use an approx 6oz "Sirocco Wind Shell Jacket." Then, when it stops raining, I still have a wind jacket. =) -mox

    Eddie Bauer MicroTherm vest

I have a Kenai; I haven't worn it in the field but really didn't like the cut of it, it rode up badly when moving and the arms were super-short.

    Eddie Bauer MicroTherm vest

There's also: http://www.firstlite.com/uncompaghre-vest.html and http://www.firstlite.com/springer-vest.html but you'll probably want to find a sale on them since they're a little more expensive than the EB stuff on sale at eddiebauer.com

    Eddie Bauer MicroTherm vest

Vests aren't great for wind ... opens arms. MicroTherm is 800wt "StormDown." I (personally) wouldn't wear it, opting instead for PrimaShield if you want packability or Climashield if you want more warmth. Just not a fan of down, even treated down, unless it's well below freezing (eg, belay...

    Yeti Coolers 50q or 65q?

If your hinges are busted, just go to a home-improvement store and get a couple of hinges. Bolt/epoxy those on. Lots of options to choose from (full-clear, offset, strap, T, etc) so go nuts.

Easton FMJ HIT insert-Broadheads wont fit

Almost all head-lengths are standardized these days ... if your field points fit then the broadheads should fit. Additionally, the tech would have installed the HIT with the specialized installation-tool and not specific to your fieldpoints. Post a pic of the two heads side-by-side on the table.

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

Hi Blake, and welcome. You need more dealers on the West Coast! Xpedition was on my short-list of exciting bows to try out but with no dealers anywhere nearby I ended up with a Hoyt (not a bad thing, but since you're the National manager you might care going forward. :) -mox

Grrr, so annoying - a tale of woe and peep recommendation.

Deer season came and went while I dealt with bow-troubles. Turkey season is about to do the same. Having trouble with the old bow not fitting ... got a new one! Using a bow-scale on the new one ... bow-scale handles bend at full draw, yanking it out of my hand. Not quite a dry-fire since it...

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

That looks very workable - good weight, kept the speed up and have good FOC to boot. I'm not sure what an extra 5-6lbs of pull will really gain you ... if you're super comfortable at the current weight and it shoots well you may just want to leave it alone. Just seat-of-the-pants, getting that...

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

There is no "global" target. On one end of the spectrum: with a perfect shot you need enough momentum to push through the soft-tissue a deer. That's not very much ... 45 lbs recurve with wooden arrows. On the other end: a terrible shot where you need to blow through the ribs and shoulder of...

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

Calculate the momentum values in slug-ft-per-second. That difference is your quantifiable value. Let's say you get a 0.5 slug-ft/sec difference. Does that matter? Well, since 1 slug != 14.6kg (or 32.2 lbs) then you can start to see a difference because your arrow then has 7.3kg (16.1 lbs) of...

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

I'll go with "less forgiving." Hopefully between the three variants everyone will understand. =P

    KE, Momentum, Speed/FPS, Ethical Kill

Look at it this way: momentum #1: 10kg * 10m/s momentum #2: 1kg * 100m/s Exactly the same momentum. MUCH higher KE on #2. But the instant your arrow contacts anything, including your target, that target is going to start slowing your arrow down very very quickly. The resistance provided...
