6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

Took this doe this evening. Shot was at 80ish yards, 6.5 cm Hornady match 140 eldm. Quartering towards me, shot broke front left leg, took both lungs out and got stuck in the hide 3” behind last rib. Gore pic is rib cage behind the impact shoulder, that entire shoulder was lost. She dropped...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

Ahh yea, should have done that as well. It was the guy above that asked for the failure thread.

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I don't have near the clout as some of the guys on here, but I've not carried my 7RM in two seasons and opt for my 6.5 CM these days. When I shot my first deer with a 140 ELDM, even after seeing all the success, I was nervous as blank. But when the bullet impacted the deer and the ground was...

WTS 7mm Rem Mag Terminal Ascent and Tipstrike

Had these boxes of ammo, gun shot them well, but shoots Federal 168 Berger Classics into one hole. No reason to hold on to these now... Normal TipStrike 160 grain - 4 boxes (80 rounds) - $160 obo shipped and insured via Paypal Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 155 grain - 6 boxes (120 rounds) -...

    Realistic Shooting Distances

I hunt in upstate SC, some pasture, some wooded. In the woods, I've never taken a shot further than 85 yards and I'll either take my bow or muzzle-loader for those sits. I will only carry my rifle(s) if I'm watching a pasture or bean field. Even then, I try to set my stand in the middle to...

    What bow is everyone shooting?

Still shooting the Bowtech Realm SS. Incredibly smooth, fast enough, and I still have my yokes for tuning. Yea, yea, I get it with things like Deadlock and similar offerings from other companies, but I think tuning yokes is more granular and part of archery for me is the tuning process.

    Elk struck by lightning?

Yea I don't believe this was a direct hit either. It was either arced off a tree/object or other animal if it was lightning. His body looks too emaciated to me and would lean towards septic from a bad shot or he just had something else going on.

338 Lapua, 30 Hart, or 300 win mag

Talk about taking the 223/77tmk rage to the opposite extreme. Dead is dead, but all three are incredibly overkill for an antelope. Unless, of course, you're waiting on them to stand in a line and take 3-4 out at the same time. In the days of inflation and a high-priced economy, every man has...

Which side arm makes most sence

I carry a Glock 34 when hunting. I don't have big bears to worry about, black bears and hogs but both of those are rare. My main concern is two-legged critters and I prefer to have capacity for my needs.

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

I'm a firm believer in the ELDM bullet. Of the two deer I've shot with this rifle since changing from the X, neither went more than 15 yards. That deer plowed the ground with his left beam for that short run and just fell over. The other did the big kick and acted like he wanted to run, but...

    Your Top FIXED blade BH

The Exodus is my favorite fixed head. You just have to realize that some shots/animals are going to produce more blood than others. The consistent thing is the Exodus and it’s always given me clean pass throughs when I put it where it’s supposed to be. I don’t even resharpen, I just buy...

When did sights become so expensive?

I’ve not bought new archery equipment in years. The last bow I bought was new, but it was old stock and I got a really good deal on it. For any sight needs, I go to the classifieds. Now that I’m going to be more “active” here, I’ll hit them here too. But it’s not just sights, it’s everything...

    Black Bear Mechanical Broadhead Setup

I’ve never had the opportunity to hunt bear, but hopefully that changes next season. If I take my bow, I’ll probably stick with the mega meat or switch to a dead meat. I’ve been a huge fane of that head for a few years now. At your specs, I’d go mega meat and make as big of a hole as you...

7mm Rem Mag Norma Bondstrike Velocity?

I’ve never shot the bondstrike, but I did shoot the 160 gr Tipstrike. It’s on the box as 3000 fps, but my rifle averaged 2942. I was pleased with it, until I discovered my rifle will shoot the fed 168 Berger into .5 groups all day long. I’m going to be selling it and a good bit of Fed TA as...

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

Maybe I can contribute some photos soon. I’ve never been into taking carnage pics, but I really like the 140 eldm out of my creedmoor. I’ve never had an exit, but I’ve also never had a deer take more than three steps.
