Okay, I would have sworn I had ring issues. Contacted Talley, they offered to take them back and spec them out. Ordered Leupold backcountry in the meantime, same exact result.
Gun is a Weatherby Cinderlite (lightweight Mark V) in .308. Bone stock. Scope is a SWFA SS 3-9x42 FFP 30mm...
Tried to search this one down but couldn’t find anything.
Last thing I did before returning my test binos was to check fitment and use in my chest rig. This revealed a new problem I hadn’t really thought of.
Just when I was wavering on my lean towards the Zeiss and maybe deciding on...
Makes sense to me. And not many folks have wrung this stuff out to your level. We all appreciate you sharing thoughts.
8’s is another can of worms with the different objective sizes, weights, etc. but it seems to make the most sense for me.
Welp. Got my hands on some NL’s today in 10x42 by accident. Had to drive a while to find an archery shop, and guess who’s also a Swaro dealer. No chance to actually test or anything, but they did have a part of the USAF resolution chart on the wall. Convenient.
For the first 5 minutes I...
No one?! Apologies OP, you probably thought this was going to be an informative post but I’m definitely seeking the same answer. I’m on the verge of kicking 10’s in favor of 8’s but it opens an entirely new can of worms.
Your question being the biggest, but also the 8.5x42 EL’s are also...
Well that’s far better. And I’m certainly not one to argue with someone who bought them and got different info first hand!
The discrepancy is odd. Maybe the “change” was for something else, region, or there was a change back that went unnoticed.
Either way, if Swaro has a lifetime warranty...
Thread from 2019 when “the change” apparently happened? (Thread details into people thinking/injecting stuff about no fault warranties, etc.)

Apparently warranty cards now say 10 years?
Yep, fully accepting that I don’t know (or know the difference in a stated 10 year and implied lifetime.)
Unknown on Leica, I didn’t purchase/test any. Could be, though.
Unknown. I just read what I could find. Certainly better if that is accurate, and current. If it’s lifetime, that absolutely changes my thoughts on their warranty.
I know there was discussion here about the warranty change recently, but I haven’t called Swarovski so I’ve no idea which is correct.
From Swarovski website. I could only find it stated if you download a product manual from them, warranty statement is at the end.
As I brought up as well though, lots of stories of Swaro taking care of folks beyond that. Which is great. Not sure how much that has translated to them changing...
Thanks Robby, I really appreciate that. I was noticing testing a few 10x that while I could tell the magnification was higher, it didn’t seem like “wow! I can see more!” Definitely changes my thought process to the 10x being the best all around mountain bino.
I was even heading down the path...
Honestly, so am I. I didn’t think it was as big of a deal until I took a liking to the Zeiss. I think I could very well be missing out. Since I’m going to rent a pair now and can back my purchase timing back, I might try and get my hands on a set.
And one more question that has to accompany the “save and buy the absolute best you can.”
While I agree, my question is - best of what? I’ve read multiple posts here on Rokslide and elsewhere, advising people that if their optic budget is $2000, buy a $1500 tripod/head and a $500 optic. Seems...
That could all very well be true. I absolutely believe the GPO warranty is different than the Vortex business model of building a planned replacement into the price. The GPO is *very* good optically. If they keep doing that, and with a warranty like that, they’ll be around at least as long as...
The 8’s in general are starting to sound appealing to me based on need alone. 10x *seems* to be the best all arounder for hunting, but my glassing for game is almost exclusively an elk hunt. (There are others, but any good glass will suffice.)
I don’t spend hours looking for muleys or sheep...
Yeah the specs are making me very interested. I just saw this review and info and actually hadn’t considered anything other than the straight 10x42’s.
Now I’m even second guessing the 10x over the 8x.
