I have shot 3 deer at 981 and 997 and 860, and one bear at 990. Coyotes not so much never can get them to stop running and screwing around. 1k is prob my max limit on living animals and conditions need to be right. I have passed on a bull elk and a bear that were at 1100, I felt it was too far...
I guess different purposes and different wants. I don’t think a few inches off a barrel makes a round good or bad. For me personally I live in western states and greatly enjoy shooting 1k-2k yards every weekend as I am a short drive from that type of shooting. So for me a 19 in 7prc simply won’t...
I would just try a tracking test and stretch it out. If there is doubt in your mind I would send the scope in for warranty work as nothing is worse than doubt when your about to pull the trigger.
Thats not necessarily true.
This chart demonstrates…..
Now yes the bullet is larger out of the 7 vs the 6.5 and energy will be different wind deflection BC etc. However I think a lot of people misunderstand ballistics so was just pointing out velocities are not that much different. Plus a...
One fits in a short action one fits in a long action. I would go short action all day over long action but I think the 7prc is a ballistically better bullet.
That rifle is great no need to change anything.
I personally would try to find a guy at a local range who will teach you and use the 2k on ammo. But the rifle will suit you well get a good scope that tracks
Properly such as nightforce leupold mark5 etc and good mounts.
I love all my defiance deviants. I hate kelbly they felt junky to me and the mechanical extractor I could not stand.
I think all are pretty good accuracy wise with the right set up and gunsmith.
Instead of picking an action maybe pick a non communist state?….o nvm
I would look at some fierce, CA, and Seekins however I am not sure Seekins drop below your requested weight.
I think the mark5 would be a 800 yard rifle on large steel all day. I don’t think you will win any prs matches with it or anything like that.
Some of my thoughts.
Fierce is a bit...
A lot of light rifles out there depending on your budget.
Could go full custom and everything in between.
Do you have a specific budget in mind? Also what kind of hunting long range, close range ? Deer, elk bear, all the above?
With that being said I know a guy at my local range who has one and...
If your in a southern unit plan on nearly all water marked locations to be dry. If you don’t know where water is prior to leaving camp do not hike in farther than you can hike out with the water on your back or you will die.
I would never hunt the border alone. A lot of illegal traffic and drugs coming across the border. I would hunt with a buddy and have a camp you don’t mind losing and a truck you don’t mind having broke into.
Just my .02
I have seen 2 in my life that were in huntable areas.
No I didn’t have a tag for that unit and no it was not even hunt season.
So I would say very rare unless you go to places that manage for trophy quality, however you will wait 20+ years to draw a tag.
Yup no sense in it we just let it be both times. I have numerous stories like that as well but all seem to be from the last 5 years or so. Pretty disappointing.
I have a similar story with a 6x6 elk. Short version, my buddy shot a nice 6x6 that took 3 steps and bedded, it was dying pretty fast. A guy with his 3 boys pop out run down to it and shoot it in the head with a pistol 😂.
