Thanks guys. Quite a few Kansas guys in here it seems. Glad to see it! Haven't hunted much of Kansas other than here in the Pittsburg area (Southeast), and up in Smith and Phillips counties in North-Central KS. Got some family up there, and used to go after pheasant and prairie dogs.
What bothers me the most is, people think making gun ban LAWS will stop gun related violence. Politicians especially. Problem is, it's CRIMINALS that are committing gun violence. CRIMINALS don't give a damn about laws, or they wouldn't be CRIMINALS! When will people get that through their heads...
It's looking like a Winchester Model 70 Safari Express in 375 H&H is in the works. Got a pretty sweet price on a brand new one, just have to wait 3-6 months for them to make and ship it, then off to a gunsmith for a few minor upgrades. Then another 3-4 weeks while I have the metal coated...
fwaf, I was just passing along what my local UPS hub told me. No stock, not a "gun". They just wanted to make sure I had taken the bolt out as well. Why that mattered, I have no idea. lol The local "franchise store" would NOT ship anything gun related at all. Said it was their option as a...
While a bit of a hassle, another work around would be to take the stock off, and ship it separately. I shipped out a barrelled action last year through our local UPS hub with no problems at all. Even told them what it was. Just make sure the bolt is out as well. Not a "gun" is there's no stock.
Have hunted the late season several times. Always came out with a trophy antelope. We usually hunt the Mid-southeast areas. Can't remember the unit areas off the top of my head. We just try to do our best to stay away from the crowds, as they are still usually pretty thick in some areas. Think...
I was insane enough to carry around a Rem 700 Sendero in 7mmSTW, bull barrell, for several years. Might as well have packed the truck in with me. lol Now I can jog with my Tikka T3x's. I'm in the 8-9 lbs. max range. Heavy enough for a steady shot, light enough to pack around the mountains, or to...
Agree with most everything that has been said already. Just one thing I had done for me, and plan on doing with the grandsons in the future. Was started off with a .22 LR. Once that was "mastered", was moved up in caliber. I think a lot of people are too enthusiastic about their 5 +- year old...
Looked for a CZ 550 American Safari in 375.......apparently everyone loves them so much no one is selling them. I know they were discontinued a few years back....
5miles and Mike, Oh, I know......but some people are just gun nuts. lol Funny thing is, I'm more of an avid bow hunter. I think last count I had 14 bows. lol I gave up gambling, booze, and loose women, so I gotta have at least one vice. lol
Taper, I've always wanted a 375, for no particular...
I've got no idea what caused it. Never seen it happen before on any vane I have ever shot. It was just like the middle of the vane had almost exploded. Cracks all over the place. The buck I shot in warmer weather, complete pass through, and no vane damage. Only difference was the outside...
Anyone else run into the Tac vanes being really brittle in cold weather? Shot a doe this last winter (Jan.) on a 25 degree day. Shooting the matrix vanes, 2.1 inch. Clean double lung pass through, just ribs and lung. Looked at the arrow, and the vanes were basically shattered in the middle...
Bought a Bowtech Solution last year due to shoulder injury. Smoothest drawing bow I could find, and still had good speed to it. Now the shoulder is healing up nicely, and it's still the bow I shoot most often. Just a buttery smooth draw.
Wouldn't hesitate for a minute on a 25-06. Easy on recoil, VERY flat shooting, easily available ammo, and damn near everyone makes a gun in it. Would recommend it over a 243 on shots out to 300+ at deer, and more knock down power for the elk possibility. GREAT, but easily forgotten cartridge...
Taper, my grandfather was a pretty well known big game hunter back in the 50-60's. His favorite "one gun if I had to pick" was the 300 Weatherby. Weatherby's are GREAT guns and great rounds, I used to have one, but since I currently don't reload, I hate the idea of a cartridge where 8-10 boxes...
Getting the itch for something new. Already have multiple varmint/coyote guns (.22-250, .243, .22's). Stepping up from that, I go to 25-06, 270WSM, and 300WM. Basically hunt whitetail, muleys, and antelope. Occasionally go out west or up north for moose or elk. Feel like I have that range of...
Dink, It's his own PTFE mix of some sort. He's the only one that has it. Only thing he doesn't treat is the trigger spring. Says the heat part of the process will take the temper out of the spring. It's "black ice coatings" out of Spanish Fork Utah. Great guy to deal with, and pretty fast turn...
Just bought my 4th T3x. GREAT guns. Rather than spending the extra for an "upgrade" like cerakote, I send my metal off to a guy in Utah. He does a coating that FAR outlasts cerakote, or anything else I have seen, and it's virtually indestructable. Drop the rifle in the mud, hose it off and let...
Possibly look at a Glock 43 (9 mm) or 42 (380). Both reliable, easy to shoot and handle. Girlfriend shoots a 42, but can easily handle the 43 as well. Decent, but not great slide release.
Not an ideal scenario, but should give a little idea what that gun and round can do. Brother borrowed mine for deer season this year. Shot 150# buck quartering to, through the shoulder, and exited out the back of the offside ribs. About a 70 yard shot. DESTROYED the shoulder. Deer made it about...
