I am thinking with the late snow melt last summer cows may have hung up at lower elevations for calving. You might see more elk way up high were there is less cover. But the majority of elk are where there is cover...i.e. oak brush, aspen chokecherry hell, or timber. Bugs don't bother elk enough...
Fun size twix bars (always take twice as many as expected), higher quality tuna +mayo/mustard, dehydrated beans + instant rice + taco seasoning, ramen w/ whatever mixed in, dried sausage or jerky for mixing in meals and snacking, banana chips and other dried fruit, Velveeta cheese packs, clif...
The state politics may not align with yours but we have some great towns with pretty good hospitals and local values that still align with yours on my side of the divide. I would not go to GJ if someone bought my house for me...bleh.
Then I would pose to you why do most ranches even exist if in your words they can barely break even? Dare I say, are you a hobby rancher?
Wasn't this discussion about capitalism and welfare ranchers?
If you were able to afford your place from money made outside of ranching, then that is not...
Dude, I don't get paid to say things like that. I specifically said I say stuff like that on the internet, that is my opinion based on over a decade of observation working in and consulting for agencies as well as my experience outdoors. Cows have irrevocably lowered the carrying capacity across...
I don't really have a take on the cattle industry because I am not involved in the cattle industry. I just clean up the messes the ranchers and energy companies leave behind.
Start shooting moo cows? Buy only imported meat? Am I not allowed to just chime in and complain about something or do you require my thesis on the subject for every forum post I respond to?
I get paid to do this stuff for a living. I come to the internet to blow off steam and say what I really...
These ranchers just playing cowboy living on subsidies. If capitalism worked in the meat industry all our meat would come from brazil and these fools would be out of business in the soup line. Noxious weed spreading range maggots.
My guess is they only do it because they know they will get away with it. Local BLM field office law enforcement would be who I would call. Whether they will actually follow up just depends on who it is. You can go up the ladder complain to field office manager etc., if you are a pain in...
Will be interesting to see what happens with my deer draw. It was a 100% draw with 3 points but the unit I applied for was impacted by tag reductions so it may be a coin flip.
Depends who you ask. I just do not view this as a poaching incident so I don't feel the hunter should have to compensate the full "value" of the animal to the state.
The punishment just does not fit the crime. You are totally right, he broke a cardinal rule and should be mighty embarrassed and owe something. But the whole point of hunting ethics is "to do the right thing even when no one is looking." Well this guy did the right thing and got a fine exceeding...
Yeah that is BS. Poachers that get caught without ever reporting get off with far less punishment, especially first time offenders. I would not have taken that plea deal. Not sure where he was in court but a jury of peers in Wyoming may have let him off with nothing.
CPW cares more about hiker and mountain bike access for their urban constituency that absolutely destroys nature, while claiming to be "pro-environment" by erecting wind farms, solar arrays, and transmission lines. Meanwhile those of us in more rural areas trying to live by using the resources...
