Welcome to the group and the state. Tip, do a lot of bear hunting. Get you out glassing and finding bears conveniently right before elk season. Oh they are usually in the same space. Plus bears kill the hell out of elk and deer.
Picked up a CVA wolf. The rear sight is foward. Played with it. She will hit an orange out to 200 yards. Gun was like 300 or less. The key is to actually put in some serious range time. I mean spend more on practice ammo than you did on the rifle. That cheap gun has many bulls on it from...
I would not trust those numbers. They are solids but that seems rather deep for a 40
For penetration test Lucky Gunner does some but it is mostly self defense stuff not 454 and 10MM.

I decided not to shoot at 10 feet with my 300 Win Mag on a deer. My 9mm to the neck a little bit safer. The 300 would have blasted through hit the ground and done who knows what. Figured if a ricochet was going to happen I would prefer a 9mm round to 300 Win mag.
A lot of guys now are carrying 10mm in Alaska, but many still carry much bigger. I just picked up a revolver for just that thing. 460 SW I can switch to 454 Casull or 45 Long Colt. I feel the pen of 10mm is not up for Brown Bear.
Well I met a couple of 2 legged snaked checking out my truck once. They were admiring the tool box at the logging gate. Things might have been different if I just had my bow. They were invited to leave or stay but staying might entail a shovel.
I still run a soft shell. For me it works out as I bow hunt so quite is a must. Plus the KUIU Guide jacket and pants are very water resistant. I have been in some heavy stuff for a few hours without problems. In December when it get bad in PNW I do run a hard shell.
I have owned both. The Taco will run better longer. The Frontier came with way more options cheaper. It had locker in the rear. That was handy a few times. The Taco will go a few hundred thousand miles if you do your maintenance.
So I picked up a Savage 110 Scout Rifle in 308 for a Subsonic pig rifle. Set it up with a Vortex Crossfire Scout Scope 2×7 with a Silencerco 36M can on it. Total rifle length 42 inches. Loaded up some Hornady round nose 150 grainers. Well she is 1.1 MOA 5 shot at 100 yards. Jesus it is fun...
It is the wind that kills you. My 23 foot camper hurt mt mileage more than my 26 foot boat. The boat weighs way more but its frint wnd cuts the wind. A RPod is not a bad option.
